The initial 950 consecutive laparoscopic cholecystectomies performed in one city at four hospitals by 30 general surgeons are reported, covering a period from April 4, 1990 to April 3, 1991. There were two operative deaths (0.2%), three common bile duct lacerations (0.3%), two subhepatic abscesses, two bowel perforations, and three bile leaks, two requiring laparotomy. To determine the risk factors for stillbirth, a case-control study was carried out in a rural community of Haryana. Stillbirths (cases) were identified retrospectively from a household survey, while the controls, matched individually with each case for the month of birth, were live born infants from the same neighbourhood as the case. BACKGROUND: It is important to recognize congenital dislocation of the hip early so that it can be treated effectively and secondary changes prevented. There is little data on the incidence of this condition in India and we, therefore, studied this problem in a large maternity and paediatric centre in New Delhi.
METHODS: Six thousand and twenty-nine consecutive newborns were examined for neonatal hip instability by an orthopaedic surgeon and a paediatrician. Clinical examination was supplemented by X-ray and ultrasonographic examination.

Two rare cases of true posterior communicating artery aneurysm are reported. One case was a saccular aneurysm, which was successfully clipped. The other was a case of fusiform trapped aneurysm, and hemiparesis and oculomotor palsy appeared transiently after surgery. In general, this type of aneurysm is included in the category of internal carotid-posterior communicating aneurysm, although some special considerations are necessary in surgical treatment.

Soil from a pesticide disposal site was used to enrich for microorganisms that degraded the acylanilide herbicide propachlor (2-chloro-N-isopropylacetanilide). After seven transfers of the enrichment, the culture contained about six strains. The highest yield of microbial biomass occurred if just two of these isolates, strains DAK3 and MAB2, were inoculated into a mineral salts medium containing propachlor. We reviewed 47 episodes of septic bursitis occurring in a private community medical practice. Most patients were male (85%), and roughly half (49%) the cases were related to recreational or occupational trauma. About 72% of cases were located in the olecranon bursa, while the remaining cases were prepatellar. Prepatellar bursitis patients were more likely to be hospitalized. Staphylococcus aureus was isolated from 70% of bursal fluid aspirations; other etiologic organisms included gram negative bacteria and Mycobacterium marinum.
