Human papillomavirus (HPV) detection was performed using the polymerase chain reaction technique on urine samples from 17 male patients with condylomata acuminata in the meatus urethrae. Urine samples from 14 male laboratory volunteers were analyzed as controls. Oral condyloma acuminatum (OCA) is a less prevalent subtype of condyloma acuminatum and is challenging to treat. We reported two cases of OCA successfully treated with 5-aminolevulinic acid photodynamic therapy (ALA-PDT). After three treatments spaced one week apart, both cases were completely cured without significant adverse reactions and were followed up for one year with no recurrence.

BACKGROUND: Genital warts, caused by the human papillomavirus, are a common sexually transmitted disease. The warts can regress spontaneously or exhibit a persistent clinical course. Various therapeutic modalities are available, yet none is curative, and there may be recurrences. Retinoids are considered the mainstay of therapy in many dermatologic diseases.
