Mechanistic insights into thermally activated delayed fluorescence synergistically governed by ESIPT-induced ICT and reorganization energy.

Excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) can serve as an effective pathway for inducing thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF), but the underlying mechanism by which it triggers TADF remains to be fully elucidated. Herein, we explore the photophysical mechanisms of ESIPT-mediated TADF behavior in salicylaldehyde Schiff base derivatives. Theoretical calculations reveal that the key to truly triggering TADF lies not in the favorable ESIPT kinetic barrier but in whether ESIPT further enhances the intramolecular charge transfer (ICT). The synergistic enhancement effect of ESIP

Effects of chlorpromazine HCl on the structural parameters of bovine brain membranes.

Fluorescence probes located in different membrane regions were used to evaluate the effects of chlorpromazine .HCl on structural parameters (transbilayer lateral mobility, annular lipid fluidity, protein distribution, and lipid bilayer thickness) of synaptosomal plasma membrane vesicles (SPMVs) isolated from bovine cerebral cortex. The experimental procedure was based on the selective quenching of 1,3-di(1-pyrenyl)propane (Py-3-Py) by trinitrophenyl groups, radiationless energy transfer from the tryptophan of membrane proteins to Py-3-Py, and energy transfer from Py-3-Py monomers to 1-anilinon…

Multiscale mechanistic insights into sonochemical energy coupling and flavor evolution in Pu‑erh tea.

Pu'erh tea (Camellia sinensis var. assamica) represents a highly complex multiphase fermentation system in which flavor formation spans chemical transformation, energy transfer and microecological succession. To elucidate the mechanistic basis by which sonochemical energy input accelerates flavor evolution, we developed an integrated multiscale model combining flavoromics, molecular dynamics simulations and microbial ecological analysis. The model captures molecular reactions and metabolic regulation under ultrasonic cavitation.Increasing acoustic power density (0.3-0.8  W mL-1) substantially …

Transmembrane helix heterodimerization in lipid bilayers: probing the energetics behind autosomal dominant growth disorders.

Here, we show that the energetics of transmembrane helix heterodimer formation can be characterized in liposomes using Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET). We present the theory and the protocol for measuring the free energy of heterodimerization, and the total (hetero and homo-dimeric) dimer fraction. We use the presented methodology to determine the propensity for heterodimer formation between wild-type fibroblast growth factor receptor 3 (FGFR3) transmembrane domain and the Ala391Glu mutant, linked to Crouzon syndrome with acanthosis nigricans.

Impact of bending deformation on a capacitive power transfer system.

Wireless power transfer enables reliable energy delivery to fully embedded devices, eliminating the need for physical connectors while supporting device miniaturization. Flexible wireless power transfer systems extend this potential to applications requiring mechanical compliance, such as powering implantable medical devices in anatomically challenging locations with reduced foreign-body sensation. Capacitive power transfer is a near-field wireless power transfer method that is often cited as tolerant to bending deformations. However, this claim is based on limited evidence derived from studie

Nuclear shuttling precedes dimerization in mineralocorticoid receptor signaling.

The mineralocorticoid receptor (MR), a member of the steroid receptor superfamily, regulates water-electrolyte balance and mediates pathophysiological effects in the renocardiovascular system. Previously, it was assumed that after binding aldosterone, the MR dissociates from HSP90, forms homodimers, and then translocates into the nucleus where it acts as a transcription factor (Guiochon-Mantel et al., 1989; Robertson et al., 1993; Savory et al., 2001). We found that, during aldosterone-induced nuclear translocation, MR is bound to HSP90 both in the cytosol and the nucleus. Homodimerization mea

Electroanalytical and Computational Investigation of Oxoammonium-Mediated Hydride Transfer.

Oxoammonium-mediated hydride transfer is an important yet relatively underexplored elementary step in C-H functionalization. In this work, we employed cyclic voltammetry (CV) to measure the rates of hydride transfer between electrochemically generated oxoammonium catalysts and 42 substrates including ethers, carbamates, amides, and sulfonamides. Through quantum mechanical (QM) calculations, we uncovered a new transition-state model for hydride transfer in which the N atom of the catalyst resides near a heteroatom (X = N or O) of the substrate to allow alignment of the oxoammonium's O═N+ motif

Deciphering the roles of AcrAB-TolC efflux pump in promoting the transmission of antibiotic resistance.

Plasmid-mediated conjugative transfer drives the global dissemination of antimicrobial resistance, posing a global threat to public health. Besides extruding antibiotics, bacterial multidrug efflux pumps modulate virulence, yet their influence on resistance plasmid spread in antibiotic-free settings remains undefined. Herein, we demonstrate that the AcrAB-TolC efflux pump is critical for the horizontal transfer of model plasmid RP4-7 and diverse clinical resistance plasmids. Single deletions of acrA, acrB or tolC significantly reduce plasmid transfer, and complementation fully restores conjuga

Mitochondrial transfer as a novel therapeutic approach in ischemic stroke treatment: Current challenges and future perspectives.

Ischemic stroke, the second leading cause of human mortality, presents a formidable challenge to healthcare. Following ischemic insult, the brain undergoes intricate pathological transformations, prominently marked by mitochondrial damage, including swelling, fission, and mitophagy, collectively termed mitochondrial quality control disorder. Mitochondria, pivotal in energy regulation and oxidative stress modulation, play a critical role in neuronal apoptosis post-stroke. To solve the problems caused by mitochondrial quality control disorders, mitochondrial transfer has become a new therapeutic

Effect of Solvents on Electrogenerated Base-Driven Transfer Hydrogenation Reactions.

Transfer hydrogenation is a crucial technology for synthesizing fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals, offering improved safety and convenience over traditional hydrogen methods, although it typically requires external bases. While isopropanol is commonly used as a hydrogen source, methanol is superior but faces challenges due to its high dehydrogenation energy barrier, limiting its use under mild conditions. This study focuses on investigating the differences in the electrogenerated base-driven transfer hydrogenation of aromatic ketones in isopropanol and methanol solvents, using Mn(CO)₅Br and c

Electrokinetics of CO2 Reduction in Imidazole Medium Using RuO2.SnO2-Immobilized Glassy Carbon Electrode.

The pursuit of electrochemical carbon dioxide reduction reaction (CO2RR) as a means of energy generation and mitigation of global warming is of considerable interest. In this study, a novel RuO2-incorporated SnO2-fabricated glassy carbon electrode (GCE) with a Nafion binder was used for the electrochemical reduction of CO2 in an aqueous alkaline imidazole medium. The electrode fabrication process involved the drop-casting method, where RuO2.SnO2 was incorporated onto the surface of the GCE. Electrochemical studies demonstrated that the GCE-RuO2.SnO2 electrode facilitated CO2 reduction at -0.58

Room-Temperature Formate Ester Transfer Hydrogenation Enables an Electrochemical/Thermal Organometallic Cascade for Methanol Synthesis from CO2.

The reduction of CO2 to synthetic fuels is a valuable strategy for energy storage. However, the formation of energy-dense liquid fuels such as methanol remains rare, particularly under low-temperature and low-pressure conditions that can be coupled to renewable electricity sources via electrochemistry. Here, a multicatalyst system pairing an electrocatalyst with a thermal organometallic catalyst is introduced, which enables the reduction of CO2 to methanol at ambient temperature and pressure. The cascade methanol synthesis proceeds via CO2 reduction to formate by electrocatalyst [Cp*Ir(bpy)Cl]

Hybrid colloidal Au-CdSe pentapod heterostructures synthesis and their photocatalytic properties.

In this report, we present a self-driven chemical process to design exclusive Au/CdSe pentapod heterostructures with Au core and CdSe arms. We have analyzed these heterostructures using high-resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM), high angle annular dark field-scanning transmission electron microscopic (HAADF-STEM), X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) studies. Microscopic studies suggest that pentapod arms of CdSe are nucleated on the (111) facets of Au and linearly grown only along the [001] direction. From the XPS study, the shifting of peak positions i

Theoretical design of diatomic catalysts for intermolecular hydrogen transfer between crotonaldehyde and hydrazine.

In this work, the reaction mechanism of crotonaldehyde (CRAL) hydrogenation to crotyl alcohol (CROL) over graphitic carbon nitride (g-CN) supported TM-Ru diatomic catalysts with hydrazine as a hydrogen source was systematically studied by using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The computational results show that hydrazine can achieve efficient hydrogen transfer at TM-Ru dual sites through a cooperative six-membered-ring transition state, with the energy barrier of the rate-determining step being only 1.15-1.21 eV, which is significantly lower than that of organic hydrogen sources

Electrolyte Design Using "Porous Water" for High-purity Carbon Monoxide Electrosynthesis from Dilute Carbon Dioxide.

Electrosynthesis of high-purity carbon monoxide (CO) from captured carbon dioxide (CO2) remains energy-intensive due to the unavoidable CO2 regeneration and post-purification stages. Here, we propose a direct high-purity CO electrosynthesis strategy employing an innovative electrolyte, termed porous electrolyte (PE), based on "porous water". Zeolite nanocrystals within PE provide permanent pores in the liquid phase, enabling physical CO2 adsorption through an intraparticle diffusion model, as demonstrated by molecular dynamics simulations and in situ spectral analysis. Captured CO2 spontaneous

Solvent Effects on Spin-Orbit Charge-Transfer Intersystem Crossing in Aryl-Substituted Boron-dipyrromethene Donor-Acceptor Dyads.

In heavy-atom-free organic molecules, the rate of triplet generation through charge recombination, as dictated by the El-Sayed rule, can be enhanced by 101-102 times compared with the rate of spontaneous spin flipping between π-π* orbitals. This mechanism is known as the spin-orbit charge-transfer intersystem crossing (SOCT-ISC). Within the framework of the SOCT-ISC mechanism, facilitating the generation of charge-separated (CS) states and suppressing the spin-allowed direct charge recombination to the ground state are pivotal for maximizing the efficiency of generating localized triplet state

Controllable synthesis of a hybrid mesoporous sheets-like Fe0.5NiS2@ P, N-doped carbon electrocatalyst for alkaline oxygen evolution reaction.

Owing to the high cost of precious metal catalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), the production of highly efficient and affordable electrocatalysts is important for generating pollution-free and renewable energy via electrochemical processes. A facile hydrothermal approach was employed to synthesize hybrid mesoporous iron-nickel bimetallic sulfides @ P, N-doped carbon for the OER. The prepared Fe0.5NiS2@C exhibited an overpotential (η) of 250 mV at 10 mA/cm2. This exceeded the overpotentials recently reported for surface-modified P, N-doped carbon-based catalysts for the OER in a 1
