Infectious Proctitis due to Human Mpox.

We describe 2 cases of infectious proctitis secondary to human monkeypox in patients presenting with rectal pain. These cases highlight the importance of multidisciplinary management of monkeypox and in expanding case definitions and enabling clinical recognition in patients presenting without skin rash.

Efficacy of the modified vaccinia Ankara virus vaccine and the replication-competent vaccine ACAM2000 in monkeypox prevention.

BACKGROUND: Recently, there has been an uptick in reported cases of monkeypox (Mpox) in Africa and across the globe. This prompted us to investigate the efficacy of the two vaccines that can prevent Mpox, the modified vaccinia Ankara virus (MVA) vaccine and ACAM2000 vaccine. We analyzed them to determine their rates of humoral cell responses, adverse events, and rash reactions and used these factors as the primary indicators. METHODS: This study adapted primary data obtained from the Medline, Google Scholar, and Cochrane Library databases. We included a total of eight studies, three of which

Simian Varicella Virus: Molecular Virology and Mechanisms of Pathogenesis.

Simian varicella virus (SVV) was first isolated in 1966 from African green monkeys (Cercopithecus aethiops) imported from Nairobi, Kenya, to the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine in the United Kingdom (UK) (Clarkson et al., Arch Gesamte Virusforsch 22:219-234, 1967). SVV infection caused severe disease that resulted in a 56% case fatality rate (CFR) in the imported animals within 48 h of the appearance of a varicella-like rash (Clarkson et al., Arch Gesamte Virusforsch 22:219-234, 1967; Hemme et al., Am J Trop Med Hyg 94:1095-1099, 2016). The deceased animals presented with fever, widespre

Transient breast livedo reticularis-like exanthem in an adolescent with COVID-19.

Livedo reticularis-like eruptions have been described in different viral infections. In patients with COVID-19, livedo reticularis-like rashes are usually mild, typically present in a symmetric distribution and mostly involve the lower limbs. A case of livedo reticularis located exclusively on the breasts of a girl with mild systemic symptoms of COVID-19 is presented. Coagulation studies were normal and findings disappeared within 1 week.

Cerebriform eruption related to acute coral dermatitis.

A 27-year-old woman presented with an acute, tender, geographic lesion on her left shin that developed after contact with a brain coral while scuba diving. Photographs obtained two hours after the incident reveal a well-demarcated, geographic, erythematous plaque with a serpiginous and cerebriform pattern at the site of contact, resembling the outermost surface contour of brain coral. The plaque resolved spontaneously over a three-week period. The biology of corals and potential biological features that lead to cutaneous eruptions are reviewed.

A case of annular erythema of infancy accompanied by elevated tryptase.

Annular erythema of infancy (AEI) is characterized by self-limited eruptions of erythematous, annular to polycyclic patches and plaques, the etiology of which is thought to involve a hypersensitivity reaction to an unknown antigen. We present a case of AEI mistaken for systemic mastocytosis due to elevated serum tryptase. We were unable to find prior reports of an association between AEI and elevated tryptase in the literature.

Acute Liver Injury in the setting of Drug Reaction with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms (DRESS) Syndrome with Cocaine as suspected culprit agent: A case report.

Drug Reaction with Eosinophilia and Systemic Response (DRESS) syndrome is a rare hypersensitivity reaction characterized by rash, fever, lymphadenopathy, and visceral involvement. The liver is frequently involved in DRESS, with increased liver enzymes and hepatomegaly. Over 40 drugs have been implicated in the induction of DRESS, however other illicit substances have also been linked to this. Prompt identification of this syndrome is imperative for management. We report the case of patient presenting with acute liver injury and eosinophilia, who developed a rash meeting criterion for DRESS, wi

Tinea Gladiatorum Detection With a Dermatophyte Test Strip.

OBJECTIVE: Determine sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV), and concordance of diafactory hs-TP (DTS) to detect tinea gladiatorum using direct potassium hydroxide (KOH) microscopy as the reference standard. DESIGN: Prospective, comparative study. SETTING: Seventeen Minnesota high schools during the winter wrestling season. PATIENTS: Seventy-one consecutive high school wrestlers identified with a suspicious rash during skin inspection. INTERVENTIONS: Samples were obtained from each rash for both DTS and direct KOH microscopy. MAIN OUTCOM

Clinical observation and analysis of skin reactions caused by COVID-19 vaccination.

The novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination is now an essential strategy for controlling the COVID-19 epidemic. This study included 132 cases of adverse skin reactions after the injection of COVID-19 vaccination from January 2021 to January 2022. The rate of adverse skin reactions after the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were 52%, 40%, and 8% of total adverse skin reactions, respectively. The Urticaria-like rash was the most common manifestation of all adverse skin reactions, accounting for 40.15% of all adverse reactions. The Eczema-like rash was 27.27%. The rat
