Targeted metabolomic analysis of exhaled breath condensate before and after bronchial provocation by eucapnic voluntary hyperventilation in adolescents with asthma: an exploratory study.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze endogenous metabolites in exhaled breath condensate before and after eucapnic voluntary hyperventilation (EVH) in adolescents with asthma with and without exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (EIB). METHODS: This was an exploratory study including 44 adolescents with asthma in the 10- to 20-year age bracket. They were divided into two groups: the group of patients with EIB (n = 25) and that of those without (n = 19). EIB was defined as a ≥ 10% reduction in FEV1 after a six-minute EVH challenge using 5% carbon dioxide. Ventilation was maintained at 21 times the baseline F

Ultrasensitive Love-SAW Biosensor Based on Self-Assembled DMSN@AuNPs with In Situ Amplification for Detecting Biomarker Procalcitonin in Exhaled Breath Condensate.

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of early screening and pathogen identification for the effective treatment of pneumonia. Exhaled breath condensate (EBC) provides a noninvasive and easily accessible method for early diagnosis of respiratory diseases, as it captures biomarkers from the airway lining fluid, offering a timely and reliable reflection of respiratory inflammation. Procalcitonin (PCT) is a biomarker widely used to assess infection type and severity, particularly for distinguishing between bacterial and nonbacterial pneumonia. However, detecting PCT especially in E

the Role of Fractional Exhaled Nitric Oxide (FeNO) and Inflammatory Biomarkers in Diagnosing Non-chronic Cough in Pediatric Patients: A Cross-sectional Study.

Fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) has emerged as a potential biomarker for differentiating between various causes of non-chronic cough, particularly in conditions associated with airway inflammation, such as asthma. This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of FeNO in pediatric patients with non-chronic cough and its ability to differentiate between asthma exacerbations and respiratory tract infections. Seventy-five pediatric patients aged 10-18 years with non-chronic cough were categorized into three groups: good control asthma (GCA, n=28), acute asthma exacerbation (AAE, n=26

Feasibility of the pre-operative measurement of fractional exhaled nitric oxide and respiratory mechanics to predict respiratory outcomes in children undergoing general anaesthesia.

INTRODUCTION: Peri-operative respiratory adverse events remain a major cause of morbidity and mortality in children undergoing general anaesthesia; those with asthma are at higher risk. The aim of this feasibility study was to determine whether pre-operative measurements of fractional exhaled nitric oxide and the forced oscillation technique are feasible in children, and to explore whether these measurements can predict peri-operative respiratory adverse events. METHODS: We assigned children into respiratory or control groups, according to the presence or absence of respiratory symptoms. We r

Green light-driven acetone gas sensor based on electrospinned CdS nanospheres/Co3O4 nanofibers hybrid for the detection of exhaled diabetes biomarker.

Morphological and structural characteristics of semiconductors have a significant impact on their gas sensing characteristics. Reasonable design and synthesis of heterojunctions with special structures can effectively improve sensor performance. Herein, a cobalt oxide (Co3O4) nanofibers/cadmium sulfide (CdS) nanospheres hybrid was synthesized by an electrospinning method combined with a hydrothermal method to detect acetone gas. By adjusting loading amount of CdS, the sensing performance of CdS/Co3O4 sensor for acetone at room temperature (25 °C) was greatly ameliorated. In particular, the res

Utilising exhaled nitric oxide information to enhance diagnosis and therapy of respiratory disease - current evidence for clinical practice and proposals to improve the methodology.

A non-invasive tool to diagnose respiratory diseases and to follow treatment has long been looked-for. Exhaled nitric oxide (NO) is a promising marker of inflammation in asthma but nearly 25-years of research has shown that it works in only certain endotypes of asthma. The modelling of NO dynamics of the lung can give more information than a single FENO value. Areas covered: The estimation of the NO production in the conducting airways and in the gas exchange area has given new insight of the NO production in diseases beyond asthma. In this article, we discuss the importance of methodology for
