The effectiveness of commonly used procedures to correct trachomatous trichiasis of the upper lid was examined in a clinical trial in Oman. Lids were graded as having minor trichiasis (five or fewer lashes), major trichiasis (more than five lashes), and defective lid closure. Twenty-two patients with severe forms of alopecia areata were treated about 4--16 months with dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB) dissolved in acetone. According to the patients' reactivity to DNCB the chemical was applied to the scalp in various concentration once a week. In 14 patients we observed the therapeutic effect of DNCB is unknown. Possibly it might be due to a change in the local immunoregulation. At the present time this treatment cannot be recommended for general use.

Pediculosis ciliaris, though not as common as in the past, is still not a rare disorder. Infestation has become more prevalent among adolescents within the past few years. Severe itching, irritation, secondary conjunctivitis, and preauricular adenopathy may accompany the louse infestation. A brief review of the etiology and treatment of pediculosis ciliaris has been presented. Every physician should be aware of this disorder and be adequately prepared to treat it.

PURPOSE: To describe a new technique to treat congenital distichiasis.
METHODS: Case series of three distichiatic patients undergoing a novel surgical technique combining splitting of the lid margin with the distichiatic lashes, marginal tarsectomy in the affected area, and tarsoconjunctival graft obtained from the upper region of the tarsus. The graft was sutured at the exposed region of the marginal tarsectomy.
RESULTS: Good cosmesis was obtained in all cases and the lids margins healed completely with good surgical outcome and no lashes contacted the cornea postoperatively.

We report an unusual case of asymptomatic subconjunctival entrapment of a cilium. A 64-year-old man presented with a 3 month history of a painless black line in the conjunctiva of the left eye, and slit-lamp examination revealed a cilium under the conjunctiva. The patient remained asymptomatic without conjunctival edema or hyperemia during a 2 week follow-up. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of an asymptomatic cilium inside the subconjunctival space.

AIM: To examine the association between epilation and corneal opacity (CO) among trichiasis patients presenting for surgery.
METHODS: Cross sectional data from the STAR trial were utilised. Patients presenting for trichiasis surgery in Wolayta Zone, Ethiopia, were evaluated for current trichiasis status. PURPOSE: The aim of this prospective study was to verify the efficacy of laser therapy for trichiasis in trachoma. Trichiasis is one of the most important complications of trachoma which is endemic in Sanliurfa, a city in the southeast of Turkey.

Seven individual members with incontinentia pigmenti are described from a family spanning four generations. The natural history of the cutaneous, ocular, hair, and dental anomalies is described for each involved member. In addition, a previously undescribed ectodermal defect, woolly-hair nevus, appeared in several affected members of this family. Evidence is offered to support the theory that the pattern of inheritance of incontinentia pigmenti is by linkage of the gene on the X chromosome acting as a dominant gene in females and lethal in males.

Cicatricial entropion resulting from trachoma occurs in various grades of severity. No one technique of surgical correction is suitable for all types. The technique has to be modified in accordance with the severity of the condition. A modified technique using skin graft is described, and excellent results (93.8%) in 380 lid corrections with minimal recurrences during a follow-up period of over 2 years are presented.
