Bidirectional perspectives on internet-related family communication: Development and validation of the parent-child internet communication scale (PCICS) and associations with problematic internet use.

This study developed and validated the Parent-Child Internet Communication Scale (PCICS), a dyadic measure assessing internet-related communication between parents and adolescents. Drawing on parental mediation theory (Livingstone & Helsper, 2008) and Schaefer's (1965) two-dimensional model of parent-child relationships (acceptance-rejection; psychological autonomy-control), items were generated to capture whether internet-related concerns can be openly shared and constructively discussed within the family. Existing measures have focused mainly on mediation behaviors or general communication q

Association between family planning message exposure and related factors in HIV testing among women of reproductive age in The Gambia: an analysis of a national survey.

BACKGROUND: Uptake of HIV testing among women of reproductive age in resource-limited settings remains a public health challenge. Thus, understanding the potential barriers to HIV testing uptake is relevant in designing HIV counseling interventions to improve utilization among women of reproductive age in these contexts. Therefore, this study aimed to identify the associations between family planning (FP) message exposure, its related factors, and HIV testing among women of reproductive age in The Gambia. METHODS: This cross-sectional study utilized secondary data from The Gambia Demographic a

The pancreatitis-cancer transformation-related factor, human rhomboid family-1, promotes pancreatic cancer progression through the SRC/YAP signaling pathway.

Pancreatic cancer is an aggressive malignancy characterized by rapid progression, unfavorable outcomes, and a low early detection rate. Elucidating the mechanisms underlying the onset and progression of pancreatic tumors is essential for early detection and for developing preventive measures. Even though human rhomboid family-1 (RHBDF) acts as an oncogene in various tumors, the role of RHBDF in pancreatic cancer progression remains unexplored. Here, publicly available datasets, including samples of chronic pancreatitis associated with pancreatic cancer from our center, were used for bioinforma

Identification and expression analysis of short internodes related sequence (SRS) gene families in litchi and longan, with functional characterization of LcSRS5 and DlSRS4 in dwarfing regulation.

Dwarfism is a significant and desirable trait in the cultivation of horticultural crops. However, the regulatory mechanisms underlying dwarfism in perennial fruit trees remain poorly understood. In this study, we investigated the role of SRS genes in regulating plant height in Sapindaceae fruit trees, specifically litchi and longan. A total of five litchi SHORT INTERNODES (SHI)-related sequence genes (LcSRS) and four longan DlSRS genes were identified. Expression profile analysis in different tissues demonstrated that LcSRS1-LcSRS5 and DlSRS4 genes exhibited distinct expression patterns, with

Lucid episodes among people with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias and their impact on family caregiver stress and grief (LEAD): protocol for a longitudinal observational study.

INTRODUCTION: Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) are conditions with progressive cognitive decline. Still, people living with late-stage ADRD (PLWD) have been reported to exhibit transient recovery of communication or behavioural abilities that had seemingly been lost. These lucid episodes (LEs) are underinvestigated and poorly understood. This study aims to advance scientific understanding of the incidence, prevalence and predictors of LEs and assess from family caregivers if LEs are associated with changes they make in care planning or experiences with burden, distress or grief

A systematic review with meta-analysis on the relation between acute stress, alcohol consumption and cortisol levels in individuals with a personal, familial or no alcohol use disorder.

The self-medication hypothesis posits that alcohol is consumed to cope with stress, but corresponding evidence (incl. its impact on physiological stress markers) is heterogeneous. Thus, this systematic review examined the relationship between acute stress, acute alcohol consumption, and cortisol levels in individuals with varying alcohol use disorder (AUD) statuses. Following PRISMA guidelines, records from PubMed/Medline, Web of Science, and PsycInfo up to 16/05/2025 were analysed. We included 53 experimental and 31 observational studies that reported alcohol consumption volume after stress v

The Birth and Beyond (BABY) study: protocol for a birth cohort study investigating the social and environmental determinants of pregnancy-related outcomes in Black American families.

INTRODUCTION: In the USA, Black birthing people and infants experience disproportionately worse pregnancy-related health outcomes. The causes for these disparities are unknown, but evidence suggests that they are likely socially and environmentally based. Efforts to identify the determinants of these racial disparities are urgently needed to elucidate the highest priority targets for intervention. The Birth and Beyond (BABY) study evaluates how micro-level (eg, interpersonal and family) and macro-level (eg, neighbourhood and environmental) risk and resiliency factors transact to shape birth pe

Ab Initio Construction and Evolutionary Analysis of Protein-Coding Gene Families with Partially Homologous Relationships: Closely Related Drosophila Genomes as a Case Study.

How have genes evolved within a well-known genome phylogeny? Many protein-coding genes should have evolved as a whole at the gene level, and some should have evolved partly through fragments at the subgene level. To comprehensively explore such complex homologous relationships and better understand gene family evolution, here, with de novo-identified modules, the subgene units which could consecutively cover proteins within a set of closely related species, we applied a new phylogeny-based approach that considers evolutionary models with partial homology to classify all protein-coding genes in
