SUMMARY BACKGROUND DATA: Partial gastrectomy for benign peptic ulcer disease is associated with an increased risk of adenocarcinoma of the gastric remnant, especially in patients who are at least 15 years' postgastrectomy. Increasing evidence of mucosal dysplasia is noted on random gastric biopsy and may serve as a histologic marker in the identification of early cancer of the gastric stump.

Granular cell tumor is a relatively rare, mostly benign lesion, that can be found in almost every organ, however, only 2% of the cases is oesophageal. It is named after the eosinophilic S-100 protein positive granula in the cytoplasm of the tumor cells. Conflicting claims have been made regarding the physiological characteristics of the pyloric sphincter. Pyloric sphincter pressures were studied in 32 patients under basal conditions, after stimulation with HCl and posture changes. INTRODUCTION: An inflammatory fibroid polyp is a rare condition with frequent localisation in the antrum of the stomach. Because of the localisation in the bottom parts of the mucosa and submucosa, a histological diagnosis is difficult to establish at endoscopic biopsies. So, a correct diagnosis is histologically possible after surgical excision which is a common manner of treatment. BACKGROUND: Previous investigators have shown the feasibility of performing an esophageal myotomy using natural orifice translumenal endoscopic surgery (NOTES), but have been unsuccessful at extending the myotomy onto the body of the stomach.

Gastric diverticulum is a rare entity; the patient usually presents with vague abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and weight loss. Diverticulectomy is required for patients with intractable symptoms or complications. We report the laparoscopic excision of a gastric diverticulum in a 15-year-old girl who had been symptomatic for 5 years. A five-port technique and a linear cutting and stapling device were used.

A 78-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital for treatment of liver cirrhosis and an esophageal varix. Endoscopy revealed a protruding nodular lesion with a transparent smooth surface proximal to the pylorus, which was accompanied by a partly yellow-whitish spot. A depressed lesion with an even edge was found. Histologically, the protruding lesion and depressed lesion showed amyloid deposits, mainly in the mucosal layer.
