Histochemical studies of the ileal mucosal cells of mice experimentally infected with H. nana revealed definite increase in mucous secretions indicating increased activity of the goblet cells in response to mucosal irritation. The activity of acid phosphatase was also increased representing a sort of defence mechanism against the attached worms. The activities of ATP-ase and NADH diaphorase enzymes were decreased indicating disturbance in the metabolic and transport processes and in the absorptive function of the intestinal epithelial cells.

PURPOSE: A rare case of unilateral vernal keratoconjunctivitis is presented.
METHODS: A 5-year-old boy had itching, foreign body sensation, redness, and ptosis in his left eye. Impression cytology specimens were taken from both upper eyelid tarsal conjunctiva.
RESULTS: On slit-lamp biomicroscopy, unilateral cobblestone papillae and a shield ulcer were found in the left eye. On impression cytology examination, there was a significant increase in inflammation, presence of a honeycomb pattern, plasma cells, and mucus strands in the upper tarsal conjunctiva of the specimens.

We report a rare case of acquired canalicular cystocele in a patient with obstructions at both the proximal and distal ends of the inferior canaliculus. Histopathologic examination revealed a dilated tubule lined with nonkeratinizing squamous epithelium that measured 19 mm long and 7 mm wide. No mucous secreting goblet cells were observed in any sections. The fibrotic, thickened wall was infiltrated with epithelioid, lymphoid, and occasional plasma cells.

The material consisted of two intestinal, one gastric body-type and 14 antral-type cases of mucosal metaplasia in the gallbladder. Outside the mucosal areas mentioned, the epithelium of the gallbladder had undergone great changes. It usually consisted of goblet cells, enterochromaffin cells, superficial gastric-type epithelial islands and antral-type glands. Extensive areas contained non-sulphated acid mucin and neutral mucin. The areas of normal gallbladder epithelium were small.
