Daily resting and exercise electrocardiograms from 81 healthy subjects taking part in eight different air saturation chamber experiments at depths of 2-132 ft sea water gauge (fswg) were recorded and interpreted. A case of vasa previa in twin pregnancy associated with a sinusoidal heart rate was observed. A review of the world literature revealed eight previously reported cases of vasa previa in twins. No first twin survived, and 62.5% of second twins eventually died from partial or complete exsanguination. A case of sinusoidal fetal heart rate (FHR) pattern with fetal anemia is described. The etiology of the pattern appears to have been fetal anemia from an umbilical cord knot, abruptio placentae and fetal asphyxia. The poor neonatal outcome in our case and a review of the literature suggest that a sinusoidal pattern is an ominous sign demanding complete evaluation of fetal well-being and often prompt obstetric intervention. The use of scalp capillary hematocrit is suggested.

Fetal outcome in 98 patients with spontaneous antepartum late decelerations was studied by combining the data of two obstetric departments. Heart rate variability was used to classify the different patterns into two categories: terminal and decelerative. Eclamptic seizures have been associated with fetal bradycardia and rapid onset or progression of labor. The fetal heart rate (FHR)-uterine contraction patterns during 14 seizures in 10 eclamptic patients were studied. A study has been carried out on the parameters of the graph of the fetal heart rate (the basal rate and dips) in 44 cases of acute fetal distress with a pH lower than 7.2 in the blood and in 30 normal deliveries. The statistical analysis confirms that there is a significant rise in the number of heart rate abnormalities such as persistent bradycardia or persistent tachycardia and with dips during deliveries with fetal acidosis.
