The Forge AHEAD Center Pilot Plus program: An integrated framework combining pilot funding, training, and community-engaged translational science.

The Deep South has the highest prevalence of obesity, diabetes, and hypertension in the United States, with marked disparities by race, socioeconomic status, and rurality. Addressing these disparities requires not only effective interventions, but also a translational science workforce equipped to design, implement, and scale solutions in real-world settings. The Forge AHEAD Center was established to improve cardiometabolic health outcomes across the Deep South by advancing both research and scientific workforce development. As a central component of this mission, the Center has developed the

Optimal Support for Elite Sprinters Using a Minimal, Adequate, and Accurate Approach.

BACKGROUND: In high-performance sport, the support provided by sport scientists and other staff can be a valuable resource for coaches and athletes. PURPOSE: We propose and detail here the approach of "minimal, adequate, and accurate" sport-science support to ensure that programs of work and solutions are both economical and effective. METHODS: Our support provision advocates for utilization of "minimal" resources (employing the least amount of time, tools, and funding) necessary to achieve the desired outcomes. We strive for "adequate" information that fulfills specific objectives without e

The racialization of pit bulls: What dogs can teach us about racial politics.

Many have argued that discrimination against pit bulls is rooted in the breed's association with Black owners and culture. We theoretically and empirically interrogate that argument in a variety of ways and uncover striking similarities between the racialization of pit bulls and other racialized issues (e.g., poverty and crime) in public opinion and policy implementation. After detailing the reasons to expect pit bulls to be racialized as Black despite dog ownership in the U.S. generally being raced as white, the article shows: (1) Most Americans associate pit bulls with Black people. (2) Anti

Gene-Targeted Hypertension Therapy. Is It Time for Indonesia?

Hypertension remains a significant global health challenge due to its high preva-lence and complications worldwide. The complex interactions between genetic, environmen-tal, and lifestyle factors mean that current pharmacological treatments for hypertension have limited long-term effectiveness, which can be characterized as refractory hypertension. Tar-geted gene therapy offers a revolutionary approach by addressing the underlying genetic mech-anisms of hypertension, providing a personalized, potentially curative solution with fewer side effects. In Indonesia, the implementation of targeted ge
