National cervical cancer burden estimation through systematic review and analysis of publicly available data in Pakistan.

BACKGROUND: Cervical cancer is a major cause of cancer-related deaths among women worldwide. Paucity of data on cervical cancer burden in countries like Pakistan hamper requisite resource allocation. OBJECTIVE: To estimate the burden of cervical cancer in Pakistan using available data sources. METHODS: We performed a systematic review to identify relevant data on Pakistan between 1995 to 2022. Study data identified through the systematic review that provided enough information to allow age specific incidence rates and age standardized incidence rates (ASIR) calculations for cervical cancer w

A Multidisciplinary Investigation of the First Chikungunya Virus Outbreak in Matadi in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Early March 2019, health authorities of Matadi in the Democratic Republic of the Congo alerted a sudden increase in acute fever/arthralgia cases, prompting an outbreak investigation. We collected surveillance data, clinical data, and laboratory specimens from clinical suspects (for CHIKV-PCR/ELISA, malaria RDT), semi-structured interviews with patients/caregivers about perceptions and health seeking behavior, and mosquito sampling (adult/larvae) for CHIKV-PCR and estimation of infestation levels. The investigations confirmed a large CHIKV outbreak that lasted February-June 2019. The total case

A Qualitative Study Investigating Experiences, Perceptions, and Healthcare System Performance in Relation to the Surveillance of Typhoid Fever in Madagascar.

BACKGROUND: The burden of typhoid fever (TF) in sub-Saharan Africa is largely unknown but is increasingly thought to be high, given that water and sanitary conditions remain unimproved in many countries. To address this gap in information, the Typhoid Fever Surveillance in Africa Program (TSAP) founded a surveillance system for TF in 10 African countries. This study was a component of the TSAP surveillance project in Madagascar. METHODS: The study entailed a qualitative assessment of patients' experiences and perceptions of services for febrile symptoms at the studies' rural and urban sentine

Behavioral Determinants of Lifestyle Modifications Following Metabolic Bariatric Surgery in a Culturally Specific Population: A Qualitative Study.

INTRODUCTION: Sustained healthy behaviors are critical for long-term success after metabolic bariatric surgery (MBS); however, patients from culturally distinct communities may face unique sociocultural and structural barriers to postoperative behavior change. We explored behavioral determinants of lifestyle modifications among women from the Arab society in Israel post-MBS. METHODS: Semi-structured, in-depth interviews were conducted with 20 women who underwent MBS at a public university-affiliated medical center. Interviews explored participants' experiences of postoperative lifestyle adjus

How delays in seeking medical care for cervical cancer patients are affected by their health-seeking behaviour: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Cervical cancer is a global health challenge for women, characterized by high morbidity and mortality rates, along with long-term health consequences and economic burden. Early screening and timely treatment can effectively manage cervical cancer, making it crucial for patients to seek medical attention promptly. Positive health-seeking behaviors (HSB) involve the awareness of health issues, self-assessment of health status, and the proactive gathering of information and taking appropriate actions to maintain health. Positive HSB are key to reducing the risk of delayed healthcare a

Circular RNA regulation and function in drug seeking phenotypes.

Drug overdoses have increased dramatically in the United States over the last decade where they are now the leading cause of accidental death. To develop efficient therapeutic options for decreasing drug consumption and overdose risk, it is critical to understand the neurobiological changes induced by drug exposure. Chronic systemic exposure to all drug classes, including opioids, psychostimulants, nicotine, cannabis, and alcohol, induces profound molecular neuroadaptations within the central nervous system that may reveal crucial information about the lasting effects that these substances imp

Differences in health self-management behaviors among residents with illnesses across remote islands with different degrees of isolation from the mainland.

Objective: Owing to geographic isolation, limited healthcare services, and aging populations, residents with illnesses living on highly isolated islands may engage more actively in health self-management. However, this assumption has not been empirically examined. The aim of this study was to compare health self-management behaviors among residents with illnesses according to the degree of island isolation. Materials and Methods: A questionnaire survey was conducted in clinics on four remote islands administered by Goto City, Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan, between July and August 2025. Participan

Impact of advice given to travelers concerning the main infectious risks associated with traveling in the tropics.

INTRODUCTION: The prevention of sanitary risks related to traveling in the tropics implies delivering a large amount of information to travelers. The objective of our study was to assess the knowledge acquired by travelers during a pre-travel consultation. METHODS: A before and after study was conducted among 202 travelers having consulted at the Tours international vaccine center. We used self-administrated questionnaires (score out of 100 marks) concerning diet, hygiene, anti-vectorial prevention (AVP), and sexual-transmitted infections (STI). The scores obtained before and after consultati

Behavioral responses during sickness in amphibians and reptiles: Concepts, experimental design, and implications for field studies.

In ectothermic vertebrates, behavioral fever, where an individual actively seeks warmer areas, seems to be a primary response to pathogens. This is considered a broad and evolutionarily conserved response among vertebrates. Recent population declines in amphibians are associated with an increase of infectious disease driven largely by climate change, habitat degradation, and pollution. Immediate action through research is required to better understand and inform conservation efforts. The literature available, does not provide unifying concepts that can guide adequate experimental protocols and

Change in attitude and help-seeking pattern of caregivers and patients with mental disorders in the community - Recent findings from India.

UNLABELLED: Knowledge of factors related to patients' and primary caregivers' health-seeking behaviour is required for a complete early intervention for the management of mental illness. Previous research has found that men are more likely to seek care and that a considerable proportion of patients seek help from native healers before obtaining psychiatric help. The goal of this study was to see if there had been any changes in the paths to psychiatric care, as well as the socio-demographic characteristics that were linked to early help-seeking behaviour among patients with mental illnesses in

The Prevalence and Mental and Physical Health Correlates of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Symptoms in Vulnerable and Underresourced Primary Care Patients Referred to a Behavioral Health Provider.

CONTEXT: The prevalence of trauma exposure among vulnerable, impoverished patients seeking primary care services is considerable. However, assessment of trauma-related symptoms is rare, even among behavioral health patients receiving primary care services within integrated health care centers. OBJECTIVE: To determine the prevalence of clinically noteworthy trauma-related symptoms and their associations with other co-occurring mental and physical symptoms as well as self-reported resiliency. PARTICIPANTS: Primary care patients (n = 120) referred to behavioral health services (76.7% black/Afri

Factors for Perceived Helpfulness of Support Sources Among Survivors of Intimate Partner Violence.

Intimate partner violence (IPV) has far-reaching health and social consequences, particularly for survivors experiencing polyvictimization-multiple forms of IPV such as physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. This study examined help-seeking behaviors and the perceived helpfulness of formal support sources (police, medical professionals, and psychologists) among a nationally representative sample of 2387 IPV survivors drawn from the 2010 National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey (NISVS) in the United States. Latent class analysis identified three distinct polyvictimization profiles:

Perceived Reportability of Intimate Partner Violence against Women to the Police and Help-seeking: A National Survey.

The literature has consistently found that victims of intimate partner violence (IPV) against women are reluctant to make their situation visible and report it to the police. Whether victims perceive and define IPV behaviors as reportable is key to understanding in which cases the police are seen as potential providers of help or whether other potential sources of help (family, friends, professionals, etc.) are preferred. The purpose of the present study was to analyze the influence of perceived reportability of IPV on women's selection of the police as a source of help compared to not seeking

Dataset relating self-control and hope among participants in Malaysian rehabilitation centers.

Current research trends are moving towards acknowledging the significance and contributions of positive psychology in understanding the potential of individuals coping with problems. The shared data were used to explore the relations between self-control and hope among drug addicts in drug rehabilitation centers in Malaysia. Self-control was conceptualized by six dimensions: impulsivity, simple tasks, risk seeking, physical activities, self-centeredness, and temper. The measurement of hope included three dimensions: cognitive-temporal, affiliative-contextual, and affective-behavioral. A total
