A study of central hemodynamic parameters, ECG charting and the activity of serum CPK and its MB fraction in 58 patients with acute myocardial infarction demonstrated that intravenous administration of 20 mg Corvaton, at the rate of 3 micrograms/kg/min, was effective for both controlling an acute left-ventricular failure, and limiting the infarcted area. A three-day treatment normalized systemic and central hemodynamic parameters in cases of medium-size infarction, and considerably reduced manifestations of acute left-ventricular failure in patients with a large area of necrosis.

Intravenous pyridoxine has been reported to lower plasma PRL in normal subjects and in patients with the amenorrhea-galactorrhea syndrome. We tested the effect of pyridoxine (300-mg iv bolus) on plasma PRL in nine patients with hyperprolactinemia due to a variety of causes. There was no effect of pyridoxine on elevated plasma PRL in any of the nine hyperprolactinemic subjects. The potential utility of pyridoxine in the long term treatment of the galactorhea-amenorrhea syndrome will require further study.

OBJECTIVE: To discover possible effects on systemic vascular resistance of the anesthetic induction agent eltanolone in comparison with thiopental and etomidate. The measurements were performed during cardiopulmonary bypass to maintain a constant cardiac output (approximately pump flow).
DESIGN: The patients were prospectively randomized in three groups to receive either eltanolone, thiopental, or etomidate.
SETTING: University hospital as a single center.

A new method for reversible reentrant cannulation of the parotid duct in cattle by use of an injectable anesthetic regimen is described. Ruminal contents were removed before anesthesia instead of food deprivation. The parotid duct was dilated by means of a long hemostatic forceps: its jaws were encased in a piece of plastic tube, and the tip was extended by a piece of flexible wire. A contribution concerning distribution and elimination of magnesium sulphate in pregnant women with preterm labour and fetal retardation is given. From the kinetic parameters calculated a dosage regimen is recommended. To describe the physiologic magnesium level in plasma by a two-compartment model a kind of "continuous infusion" was assumed.

Changes of fat metabolism in endotoxemic dogs were studied by means of intravenous fat tolerance test. Twelve dogs subjected to the present studies were divided into two groups; peritonitis was produced in one group (6 dogs) and 1.5 mg/kg of E. coli lipopolysaccharide was injected intravenously in another groups (6 dogs). After production of peritonitis, Limulus test was positive in all of the six dogs, however there were no significant changes in blood sugar levels, lactate/pyruvate ratio, and elimination rate of fat emulsion from the venous blood (K-value) after the induction of endotoxemia

The adsorption of diazepam to infusion sets and plastic syringes was studied. Infusion solutions consisting of diazepam injection (Valium) in glucose 5.5%, or diazepam emulsion in a lipid emulsion (Intralipid 10%) were infused through two different infusion sets (Transcodan L-74 and Cutter IL). It was found that, when an infusion solution with a low diazepam concentration (0.04 mg/ml) was infused slowly (4 ml/h), the diazepam adsorption was more than 80%.
