BACKGROUND: A limiting factor in expanding the kidney donor pool is donor kidneys with renal tumors or cysts. Partial nephrectomy (PN) to remove these lesions prior to transplantation may help optimize organ usage without recurrence of malignancy or increased risk of complications.
METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed all recipients of a living or deceased donor graft between February 2009 and October 2022 in which a PN was performed prior to transplant due to the presence of one or more concerning growths. Donor and recipient demographics, perioperative data, donor allograft pathology, and r

INTRODUCTION: Mixed epithelial and stromal tumour of the kidney (MEST) is a rare and distinctive neoplasm accounting for 0.2% of all renal cancers. Most of these tumours behave in a benign fashion but 13 cases with malignant transformation have already been reported. We present the first case of an extremely aggressive MEST with rapid recurrence after radical treatment, demonstrating objective response to chemotherapy.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 31-year-old female presented to the hospital complaining of gross hematuria. Computed tomography (CT) revealed an intraparenchymal mass in the left kidney

OBJECTIVES: Bilateral renal cell carcinomas (bRCC) account for <4% of all renal tumors. We report on the management, histopathologic results, and long-term follow-up of 101 patients with bRCC.
METHODS: A total of 101 patients with bRCC who had undergone surgery from 1975 to 2005 at our institution were identified from our kidney tumor database and included in this retrospective analysis. Cancer-specific survival was assessed using the Kaplan-Meier method. Subgroups were compared using the log-rank test. Statistical analysis was performed with the Statistical Package for Social Sciences for Wi

We report 3 cases of primary renal cell tumor simulating atrophic kidney with distinct gross, morphologic, immunohistochemical, and molecular genetic features. The tumors were retrieved out of more than 17 000 renal tumors from the Plzen Tumor Registry. Tissues for light microscopy had been fixed, embedded, and stained with hematoxylin and eosin using routine procedures. The tumors were further analyzed using immunohistochemistry, array comparative genomic hybridization, and human androgen receptor. Analyses of VHL gene and loss of heterozygosity (LOH) 3p were also performed. The patients were

Hemangiosarcoma is a mesenchymal neoplasm originating in the endothelial cells of blood vessels; they can be classified as non-visceral and visceral types. Non-visceral hemangiosarcomas can affect the skin, subcutaneous tissues, and muscle tissues; visceral hemangiosarcomas can affect the spleen, liver, heart, lungs, kidneys, oral cavity, bones, bladder, uterus, tongue, and retroperitoneum. Among domestic species, dogs are most affected by cutaneous HSA. Cutaneous HSA represents approximately 14% of all HSA diagnosed in this species and less than 5% of dermal tumors, according to North America
