The present study aimed to determine the nasal respiratory resistance (NRR) in subjects with cleft deformity of the lip and palate. The cleft sample was subdivided into cleft lip (N = 15) (mean age 13.4 years, median age 14 years), cleft palate (N = 19) (mean age 12.7 years, median age 12 years), and unilateral cleft lip and palate subjects (N = 27) (mean age 16.4 years, median age 16 years). The works of Paul Tessier, M.D., have shown the frequent association of facial and cranial clefts. After studying eleven cases of cleft palate which could be associated to encephalic anomalies, we conclude that we cannot systematize an evaluation by CAT-scan for low and isolated cleft palates. On the other hand, as soon as an association exists with: a psychomotor deficit (even slight); neurologic symptoms; a participation of the eye or the socket, the scanner evaluation becomes necessary.

Six months is believed to be optimal age for primary chiloplasty; the most effective method is a combined chiloplasty after Mirault---Limberg---Obukhova---Anamenski resulting in primary union in 99% of cases. In cleft palate the operation is possible at the age of 6--7 years. The article describes specific features of the surgical treatment of clefts involving part of the hard palate, complete uni- and bilateral cleft palate and alveolar processes of maxilla.

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is an uncommon malignancy arising from secretory glands. While most commonly involving the parotid and submandibular glands, it can arise from any of the minor salivary gland tissue in the upper aerodigestive tract.
