Skeletal deformities and surgical procedures in orthognathic surgery patients: a 10-Year retrospective analysis of 1095 cases.

BACKGROUND: Orthognathic surgery is a well-established method for correcting skeletal dentofacial deformities. Despite its widespread application, large-scale data describing deformity prevalence and the distribution of surgical approaches remain limited. This study aimed to determine the prevalence and patterns of skeletal deformities and orthognathic surgical procedures in patients who underwent orthognathic surgery. METHODS: In this retrospective study, the radiographic records of 1095 patients (663 females, 432 males; aged 16-65 years; mean age: 23.07 ± 5.6 years) treated between 2014 and

Orthognathic surgery improves compromised natural head position and pharyngeal airway in patients with Skeletal Class II or III malocclusion.

BACKGROUND: Natural head position (NHP), pharyngeal airway and maxillofacial growth pattern are correlated. The author's previous studies proved that following surgical correction of Skeletal Class II malocclusion, the over-extended NHP returned upright, and the pharyngeal airway space (PAS) dimension expanded. OBJECTIVE: The present study compares the post-operative change in NHP and PAS after orthognathic surgery in Skeletal Class II and III malocclusion patients. METHODS: Patients receiving orthognathic procedures to correct Skeletal Class II or III malocclusions were reviewed in this ret

Golden Proportion Analysis of Dental-Skeletal Patterns of Class II and III Patients Pre and Post Orthodontic-orthognathic Treatment.

INTRODUCTION: The golden proportion has been used in dentistry in an attempt to improve facial function and, possibly, esthetics by simplifying the diagnosis of facial and dental disharmony. The aim of this study is to analyze pre- and postoperative cephalometric tracings of lateral cephalograms of patients with class II and III deformities submitted to orthognathic surgery, and verify if the 13 dental-skeletal patterns (ratios), as defined by Ricketts, moved closer to or further away from the golden proportion. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 110 lateral cephalometric radiographs, 55 obtai
