AIMS: To evaluate putative associations between drugs and dilated cardiomyopathy.
METHODS: We used the case/noncase method in the French PharmacoVigilance Database (FPVD). Cases were all the observations with dilated cardiomyopathy registered into the FPVD between 1 January 1990 and 30 June 2007. Noncases were all other reports other than those studied. Anthracyclines were used as positive controls. Data were expressed as reporting odds ratio (ROR) with their 95% confidence intervals.

BACKGROUND: Kaposis varicelliform eruption (KVE) represents widespread cutaneous herpes simplex virus (HSV) infection in patients with preexisting dermatoses. Occasionally, this infection can present as a nosocomial infection in skin wards, if adequate bed-spacing and barrier nursing methods are not followed. Pregabalin is an anticonvulsant widely used for the treatment of epilepsy and neuropathic pain. However, there is a growing concern about its misuse, particularly among drug users and patients with substance use disorders (SUD). It is often used in combination with other psychoactive molecules and at levels well above the recommended doses. Increasing cases of overdose and death associated with the misuse of pregabalin have been reported worldwide. Systemic hypersensitivity reaction to nickel-containing medical device is a rare complication after percutaneous atrial septal defect closure. The symptoms regress spontaneously or in response to medical treatment in most cases. Surgical device removal is mandatory and effective in patients whose symptoms persist despite optimal medical therapy. Herein, we report a case of systemic allergic contact dermatitis secondary to nickel allergy after atrial septal defect closure and its successful treatment with surgical removal of the device.

We report the case of a 54-year-old man who developed femoral head collapse after removal of a Kuntscher nail used to fix a shaft femoral fracture that occurred 35 years earlier. The removal of fixation devices implanted several years earlier can be a difficult procedure and can expose patients to several complications. Literature is still controversial regarding the correct timing and indications. It is mandatory to evaluate potential complications and inform the patients before undertaking this procedure when really necessary.

We present a case of dislocation of the fourth carpometacarpal joint without associated fractures. This is the first case to be reported in the literature. Carpal injuries are uncommon; it is even rare for isolated carpometacarpal dislocation to occur without associated fractures. The injury is difficult to diagnose because of the swelling of the hand and may be missed on several occasions. A lateral radiograph of the wrist has been found to be mandatory to its precise diagnosis if suspected. Early recognition and anatomical reduction are essential in achieving good long-term outcomes.
