BACKGROUND: Therapeutic options in Philadelphia chromosome-positive chronic myelogenous leukemia (Ph-positive CML) in chronic phase include allogeneic stem cell transplantation (SCT) and treatments other than allogeneic SCT. Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is a stem cell-driven disorder caused by the BCR/Abl oncoprotein, a constitutively active tyrosine kinase (TK). We describe a rare case of sudden blast crisis of chronic myeloid leukemia that occurred after a 13-year durable remission, following allogeneic bone marrow transplantation and donor lymphocyte infusion.
