A 10% w/w dip formulation of high CIS-cypermethrin (Ecofleece sheep dip) was evaluated as a prophylactic and treatment method against Psoroptes ovis of sheep. A laboratory trial using groups of healthy sheep under challenge showed that, when dipped as directed for 1 min, they were protected against infection for at least 4 weeks. A unilateral rosacea-like chronic dermatitis of the right side of the face was shown to harbor innumerable Demodex folliculorum and D. brevis. Treatment with oral metronidazole suppressed the dermatitis but did not significantly reduce the Demodex population. Treatment with topical crotamiton eliminated the Demodex and was curative. These observations support the view that D. folliculorum and D. brevis may be pathogenic when they are present in extremely large numbers.

BACKGROUND: Twelve ocular surface disease experts convened to achieve consensus about Demodex blepharitis (DB) using a modified Delphi panel process.
METHODS: Online surveys were administered using scaled, open-ended, true/false, and multiple-choice questions. A 23-year-old woman presented to our dermatology clinic for the sudden onset of pruritic lesions on her forearms and legs for the past two days ago. She had been restoring used furniture infested with woodworm. We observed many oval "comet-shaped" erythematous maculopapules with a serpiginous track on the exposed parts of her forearms and legs (Figure 1). Considering the temporal relationship and the contact with woodworm, we were able to diagnose it as Pyemotes ventricosus. We prescribed topical corticosteroids twice daily. By the 8th day, the lesions had cleared.
