Relationship satisfaction moderates links between poor sleep quality and psychological distress among couples coping with type 1 diabetes.

OBJECTIVES: We examined links between sleep quality and psychological distress among couples dealing with type 1 diabetes (T1D) across cross-sectional and daily diary methods and investigated whether relationship satisfaction moderated these associations. METHODS: 199 persons with T1D and their spouses completed survey questionnaires reporting their own sleep quality, depressive symptoms, and relationship satisfaction. They also completed 14-day diaries reporting their own sleep quality and negative affect. Multi-level actor-partner interdependence models examined associations between sleep q

Psychological factors associated with headache frequency, intensity, and headache-related disability in migraine patients.

BACKGROUND: Several psychological cofactors of migraine have been identified, but relationships to different headache parameters (e.g., headache frequency vs. headache-related disability) are only incompletely understood. METHODS: We cross-sectionally assessed 279 migraine patients at their first presentation at our tertiary headache center. We obtained headache and acute medication frequency, pain intensity, the Migraine Disability Assessment Scale (MIDAS), and the Pain Disability Index (PDI) as headache-related outcomes as well as scores of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS),

Intersections between childhood abuse and adult intimate partner violence among Ecuadorian women.

OBJECTIVES: Strong linkages exist between childhood abuse and adult intimate partner violence (IPV) among women in developed countries. Few studies examine this pattern in developing nations. This study explores the effect of childhood physical and/or psychological abuse on the likelihood of IPV among a national sample of Ecuadorian women of reproductive age. METHODS: Secondary data analysis was conducted on a subsample of 9,077 Ecuadorian women, utilizing the 2004 Encuesta Demografía y de Salud Materna e Infantil survey. Cross-tabulations and multivariate logistic regression models were util

Poor mental health in Ghana: who is at risk?

BACKGROUND: Poor mental health is a leading cause of disability worldwide with considerable negative impacts, particularly in low-income countries. Nevertheless, empirical evidence on its national prevalence in low-income countries, particularly in Africa, is limited. Additionally, researchers and policy makers are now calling for empirical investigations of the association between empowerment and poor mental health among women. We therefore sought to estimate the national prevalence of poor mental health in Ghana, explore its correlates on a national level, and examine associations between em

Examining Psychological Factors as Contributors to Pain, Disability, and Physical Function in Geriatric Chronic Low Back Pain: A Prospective Analysis of the Delaware Spine Studies Cohort.

In younger populations, risk factors from psychologically-focused theoretical models have become accepted as primary drivers behind the persistence of low back pain (LBP), but these risk factors have not been thoroughly assessed in older adult populations (60-85 years). To address this knowledge gap, we sought to examine longitudinal associations between both general and pain-related psychological risk factors and future pain intensity, LBP-related disability, and physical function (gait speed) outcomes in older adults with chronic LBP (n = 250). Questionnaires for general (ie, depressive symp

Modeling and estimating the feedback mechanisms among depression, rumination, and stressors in adolescents.

The systemic interactions among depressive symptoms, rumination, and stress are important to understanding depression but have not yet been quantified. In this article, we present a system dynamics simulation model of depression that captures the reciprocal relationships among stressors, rumination, and depression. Building on the response styles theory, this model formalizes three interdependent mechanisms: 1) Rumination contributes to 'keeping stressors alive'; 2) Rumination has a direct impact on depressive symptoms; and 3) Both 'stressors kept alive' and current depressive symptoms contrib

Breaking the silence: the effectiveness of a dialogue-based intervention on family functioning and psychological distress among young adults in a Chinese context.

In many Chinese societies, cultural taboos surrounding death have hindered family communication, leading to psychological distress. This study evaluated a culturally sensitive, dialogue-based workshop aimed at helping adolescents and young adults in Macau enhance their ability to discuss life-and-death topics within the family. By using a quasi-experimental design, 123 participants were assigned to the intervention group (n = 59) or the control group (n = 64). Baseline and post-intervention data on family functioning (APGAR), psychological distress (PHQ-4), and life attitudes (SF-LAI) were col

Respiratory variability and psychological well-being in schoolchildren.

Among the relations between respiration and psychological state, associations with respiratory variability have been contradictory. In this study, respiration was measured noninvasively in 162 children with a mean age of 11 years (from 9 to 13). They completed a battery of psychological tests. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM or LISREL) revealed a model that fit the data well (chi 2 = 88.201, df = 79, p = .224). In this model, respiratory variability was positively related to anger-in and negatively to negative fear of failure and neurotic complaints. Respiration rate was positively related t

The Relationships of Psychological Richness, Meaning of Life, and Psychological Well-Being: The Mediating Role of Happiness.

This research examined the relationships among psychological richness, meaning of life, and psychological well-being (PWB), with happiness as a mediator. A sample of 494 adult participants from the general population was selected through purposive sampling. The data were gathered using the Psychologically Rich Life Questionnaire (PRLQ; Oishi et al., 2019), the Meaning in Life Questionnaire (MLQ; Steger et al., 2006), the Oxford Happiness Inventory (OHI; Argyle et al., 1989), and the Psychological Well-Being Scale (PWBS; Ryff, 1989). The analysis indicated that psychological richness, meaning i

ResoMamba-LLM: multimodal physiological signal stress detection for wearable devices via Mamba and: LLM. reprogramming.

Objective. The accuracy of psychological stress detection hinges upon the precision with which models capture complex and variable physiological responses. Current research primarily employs deep learning techniques to model multimodal physiological responses, aiming to enhance detection performance by leveraging complementary features across modalities. However, existing deep learning approaches face challenges in modeling long-range dependencies and exhibit suboptimal robustness in cross-modal fusion.Approach.To address this, this paper proposes ResoMamba-LLM, a multimodal stress detection fr
