Primary primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET) of the bladder is an extremely rare and highly aggressive neoplasm. We report a case of PNET of the urinary bladder associated with increased serum neuron-specific enolase (NSE) in the presence of relapse and metastasis. A 66-year-old male presented to our department due to painless gross hematuria. Computed tomographic urography (CTU) showed an intraluminal tumor in the anterior bladder wall. Biopsy revealed a malignant small round blue cell tumor. The patient denied radical cystectomy, and partial cystectomy was given together with resection of

Human gallbladder cancer (GBC) is a lethal aggressive malignant neoplasm. Identification of potential molecular biomarkers and development of targeted therapeutics for GBC patients is very necessary. In this study, we firstly investigated the correlation between ring finger protein 125 (RNF125) expression and the metastasis and prognosis of GBC, and the underlying molecular mechanism. RNF125 expression in a cohort of GBC tissues was examined; its correlation with clinicopathological and prognostic factors of GBC patients was analyzed. Moreover, the metastasis-related difference expressed genes

Stromal components not only help form the structure of neoplasms such as melanomas, but they also functionally contribute to their malignant phenotype. Thus, uncovering signaling pathways that integrate the behavior of both tumor and stromal cells may provide unique opportunities for the development of more effective strategies to control tumor progression. In this regard, extracellular matrix-mediated signaling plays a role in coordinating the behavior of both tumor and stromal cells. Here, evidence is provided that targeting a cryptic region of the extracellular matrix protein collagen (HU17

Lingual adenocarcinomas (ADC), either primary or metastatic to the tongue are extraordinarily rare neoplasms. Primary lingual adenocarcinomas are primarily of minor salivary gland origin. Two cases of primary colonic-type adenocarcinomas of the base of the tongue were recently reported for the first time in the English literature. We present an additional case of lingual intestinal-type adenocarcinoma with mucinous features that occurred in association with cervical node metastasis and discuss the clinicopathologic features and histogenetic aspects of this rare entity.

Neuroblastomas are the most common extracranial solid malignancy in children. In contrast, salivary gland tumors are uncommon in children, accounting for only 1% of all pediatric neoplasms. Parotid metastases are rare; only two cases of parotid metastases from neuroblastomas have been reported with an emphasis on the pathology. We present a case of a parotid metastasis from a neuroblastoma with in-depth description and discussion of its ultrasound (US), computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) appearances.

Carcinoid tumours are usually slow-growing, neuroendocrine neoplasms that primarily affect the gastrointestinal tract and bronchial tree. Although relatively rare, isolated, single metastasis to the head and neck has been reported. We present a unique case of 6 metachronous carcinoid metastases to both parotid glands, the left submandibular gland, upper lip, and thyroid, over 3 years. To our knowledge, this widespread presentation in the head and neck has not previously been reported.

The authors argue that CT is superior to other imaging techniques for the examination of the bones and soft tissues of the chest wall. They also note the importance of CT in planning therapy for lesions involving these structures. In support of these theses they present computed tomograms showing 26 different types of lesion involving the chest wall ranging from sternal fracture to malignant fibrous histiocytoma. Malignant neoplasms involving the chest wall by metastasis or direct extension from the breast, lung or mediastinum are emphasized.

As a non-genetic factor, exposure to environmental pollutants, such as bisphenol A and its replacement chemicals (e.g., BPS), is one of the major risk factors for the occurrence and development of breast cancer. The heterogeneous spatiotemporal progression of multifocal breast cancer at the microscale plays an infamous role in phenotype variation and malignant degree increase. However, prenatal bisphenol exposure-induced heterogeneous features of offspring during breast cancer progression are far from elucidated. Using a noninvasive ultrasound elastography (UE) guided-spatiotemporal metabolomi

RATIONALE: Choriocarcinoma is a highly invasive gestational trophoblastic neoplasm, usually metastasis to lung and brain, but occurrence of choriocarcinoma following spontaneous abortion presenting as a vertebral tumor is extremely rare, to the best of our knowledge. Because of the poor diagnosis and high malignancy, the low progression-free survival follows up.
PATIENT CONCERNS: We here are reporting a case of choriocarcinoma that presented with vertebral tumor induced paralysis of limbs and incontinence of urine.
DIAGNOSIS: Combined with the childbearing history, high β-human chorionic gon

BACKGROUND: Leiomyosarcoma (LMS) is an uncommon mesenchymal neoplasm, which infrequently metastasizes to pancreas and thigh. Clinical presentation and imaging findings of metastatic broad ligament LMS are often nonspecific. Complete excision plays an important role in treatment of patients with localized LMS.
CASE PRESENTATION: Here, we report a case of a 33-year-old woman with recurrent broad ligament LMS metastasizing to pancreas and thigh. Previously, she was diagnosed with broad ligament LMS and underwent hysterectomy, bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. The disease-free interval was 2.5 yea

Oral cavity metastasis of malignant tumors is extremely rare and accounts for only 1% of all malignant oral tumors. Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) can metastasize to any part of the body, with a 15% risk of metastasis to the head and neck region when the disease is disseminated and a 1% risk when it is not. RCC also is the third most common infraclavicular neoplasm that metastasizes to the oral cavity, after lung carcinoma in men and breast carcinoma in women. In the maxillofacial region, the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses are the most commonly affected sites, followed by the oral cavity. This

Papillary thyroid carcinoma with metastasis to the frontal skull is extremely rare. We report a case of unsuspected papillary thyroid carcinoma with frontal skull metastasis. The patient was a 62-year-old African American woman with presentation of a 4-cm firm, painless, immobile, ill-defined mass at the right forehead. Ultrasound and computer tonography detected a hypervascular and osteolytic tumor involving the skull and overlying skin. Fine-needle aspiration was performed followed by surgical biopsy. Cytologic examination revealed the presence of hypercellular and bloody material. The neopl

Brain metastases are clinically diagnosed in the majority of patients with metastatic melanoma. The prognosis for patients with melanoma brain metastasis is poor with a median survival time of 6 months after diagnosis. Development of better therapies requires a better understanding of the biology of melanoma brain metastasis. The development of a relevant in vivo model offers this possibility. The intracarotid injection of different murine or human melanoma cells into syngeneic or nude mice produces metastases in different regions of the brain. This site-specific metastasis is not due to patte

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is a rare salivary gland neoplasm with a poor long-term prognosis due to multiple recurrences and distant metastatic spread. Circulating tumour cells (CTCs) are tumour cells shed from a primary, recurrent, or metastatic cancer that are detectable in the blood or lymphatics. There is no literature to date confirming the presence of CTCs in ACC. The aim of this study was to determine whether CTCs are detectable in ACC. Blood samples were collected from eight patients with histologically confirmed ACC. The TNM stage of the tumour was recorded, as well as any prior t

Sinonasal undifferentiated carcinoma (SNUC) is a rare and aggressive cancer of the sinonasal tract and is often characterized by intracranial invasion. However, SNUC rarely metastasizes to the spine. In this paper, we present a case of extradural metastasis and invasion of the adjacent spine by SNUC. A 42-year-old man presented to our hospital with two-month history of anosmia and nosebleeds. Imaging studies showed a neoplasm of the ethmoid sinus with extension into the anterior cranial fossa. The patient underwent resection of the carcinoma and began chemoradiotherapy. After completing chemor

The clinicopathologic findings in 200 cases of malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) with follow-up information are presented. This tumor occurred principally as a mass on an extremity (lower extremity 49%, upper extremity 19%) or in the abdominal cavity or retroperitoneum (16%) of adults (peak incidence 61-70 years of age). It typically involved deep fascia (19%) or skeletal muscle (59%) and only rarely was confined to the subcutis without fascial involvement (7%). The MFH had variable morphologic features and frequently showed transitions from areas having a highly ordered storiform pattern t
