Functional MRI brain state occupancy in the presence of cerebral small vessel disease - a pre-registered replication analysis of the Hamburg City Health Study.

We aimed to replicate recent findings on the association between the extent of cerebral small vessel disease (cSVD), functional brain network dedifferentiation, and cognitive impairment. We analyzed demographic, imaging, and behavioral data from the prospective population-based Hamburg City Health Study. Using a fully prespecified analysis pipeline, we estimated discrete brain states from structural and resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). In a multiverse analysis, we varied brain parcellations and functional MRI confound regression strategies. The severity of cSVD was op

Identification of occupations susceptible to high exposure and risk associated with multiple toxicants in an observational study: National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 1999-2014.

Occupational exposures to toxicants are estimated to cause over 370 000 premature deaths annually. The risks due to multiple workplace chemical exposures and those occupations most susceptible to the resulting health effects remain poorly characterized. The aim of this study is to identify occupations with elevated toxicant biomarker concentrations and increased health risk associated with toxicant exposures in a diverse working US population. For this observational study of 51 008 participants, we used data from the 1999-2014 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. We characterized

Epidemiology of chronic occupational exposure to formaldehyde: report of the Ad Hoc Panel on Health Aspects of Formaldehyde. Universities Associated for Research and Education in Pathology, Inc.

An independent, international panel of scientists reviewed and evaluated the relevant literature on occupational and environmental exposure to formaldehyde and subsequent epidemiology of cancer in exposed populations. Studies of topical sites (respiratory tract and skin) were considered separately from non-topical sites (other major organ systems) and individual assessments were made of evidence of site-specific cancer risk within the broader categories. In addition to the studies per se, the Panel also took into account critiques and reviews of the published reports. The Panel concluded that:

Multicomponent occupational lifestyle intervention to improve physical activity, musculoskeletal health, and work environment among Japanese teleworkers (TELEWORK study): protocol for a cluster randomized controlled trial.

OBJECTIVES: Teleworking from home was widespread during the 2019 coronavirus disease pandemic. This working practice is expected to maintain popularity among employers and employees. Compared with in-person workers, teleworkers tend to be less physically active and have more musculoskeletal pain. Interventions specific to reducing health risks among teleworkers have not been identified. This study will examine the effects of an occupational lifestyle intervention encompassing 3 components: physical activity promotion, musculoskeletal health, and work environment improvement. METHODS: This clu
