BACKGROUND: Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy represents one option for the non-surgical management of Peyronie's disease. Despite promising results, several questions are still pending. We want to present the long-term results of a retrospective study using high-energy extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: We evaluated retrospectively 110 patients treated between 1996 and 2020 at the Department of Urology, SLK Kliniken Heilbronn for chronic phase Peyronie's disease using two electromagnetic lithotripters (Siemens Lithostar Plus Overhead Module, Siemens Lithoskop) a

Conservative treatment of Peyronie's disease (induratio penis plastica, IPP) remains largely unsuccessful despite decades of research, as the exact disease pathogenesis remains unclear. Currently, IPP is understood as a benign, localized, progressive connective tissue disorder of the tunica albuginea, in which repetitive microtrauma triggers an inflammatory process leading to fibrosis formation. The new "conservative" treatment approaches focus on immune-modulatory and regenerative mechanisms, but significant therapeutic success is still lacking. Treatments such as extracorporeal shockwave the

PURPOSE: Early clinical trials of injectable collagenase Clostridium histolyticum (CCh) for Peyronie's disease (PD) demonstrated safety and efficacy. Since then, modified injection protocols have been proposed. Adverse events-such as bruising, swelling, hematoma, and corporal rupture-exceed 50% in many studies, but lack of standardization of hematoma severity limits conclusions about the relative safety of protocols. We propose a modification of the standard injection technique that aims to decrease the rates of adverse events. We further describe a hematoma classification rubric that may stan

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effectiveness in Peyronie's disease surgical treatment using Xenform, a non-cross-linked graft derived from dermal bovine tissue, to close the defect obtained after plaque incision, without penile prosthesis implant. A further objective is to evaluate the satisfaction of patients.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We treated with plaque incision 28 patients with a stable penile curvature ≥60° hindering penetration and with erectile function conserved. International Index of Erectile Function-15 and a not-validated questionnaire constituted of 7 questions about their satisfacti

INTRODUCTION: The relation between infertility and sexual dysfunction can be reciprocal. Causes of sexual dysfunction that affect fertility include erectile dysfunction, Peyronie's disease (abnormal penile curvature), low libido, ejaculatory disorders in men, and genito-pelvic pain/penetration disorder (GPPPD) and low sexual desire in women.
AIM: To review the association between infertility and sexual dysfunction and discuss current management strategies to address sexual disorders in couples with infertility.
METHODS: Peer-reviewed publications from PubMed published from 1980 through Febru

INTRODUCTION: Peyronie disease (PD) is a progressive fibrotic disorder of the penile tunica albuginea that results in fibrotic penile plaques and can lead to penile deformity. Characterized by aberrant fibrosis resulting in part from the persistence of myofibroblasts and altered gene expression, the molecular factors underpinning PD and other related fibrotic diatheses are just being elucidated. A genetic link to PD was first identified three decades ago using pedigree analyses. However, the specific genetic factors that predispose patients to aberrant fibrosis remain unknown, and the relation

CONTEXT: Peyronie disease (PD) is a connective tissue disorder involving the formation of fibrous plaques in the tunica albuginea. Abnormal plaques and scar tissue create a chronic state of inflammation, causing increased curvature of the penis as well as erectile dysfunction.
OBJECTIVE: To determine the feasibility and effects of using placental matrix-derived mesenchymal stem cells (PM-MSCs) in the management of PD.
METHODS: In a prospective study, patients with PD were injected with PM-MSCs, and followed up at 6-week, 3-month, and 6-month intervals to assess changes in plaque volume, peni

Although the association between Peyronie's disease (PD) and erectile dysfunction (ED) is well established, limited data are available correlating penile curvature and penile hemodynamic parameters. We sought to examine this association in a cohort of PD men undergoing penile duplex Doppler ultrasound (PDDU). PD patients were retrospectively evaluated to correlate the extent and direction of penile curvature with measured vascular parameters. Demographic variables, disease characteristics and PDDU parameters were tabulated and statistically compared based on extent (≤ 45° and >45°) and directi

INTRODUCTION: Peyronie's disease described as penile curvature, fibromathosis and pain that occur most often in men aged 40 to 60 years. The main complaint that caused the patient to visit the clinic is nodules on the upper surface of the penis, causing curvature and distortion particularly during erection, but they don't have any urinary problem. In this study, we evaluated the effect of verapamil compared to pentoxifylline in Peyronie's disease.
METHODS: In this study, 90 patients with signs and symptoms of Peyronie's disease which were diagnosed and were in the age range 40 to 70 years enr

INTRODUCTION: Peyronie's disease (PD) is a connective tissue disorder of the penis in which a fibrous scar in the tunica albuginea can result in multiple penile deformities.
AIM: The study aims to investigate the prevalence and time to identification of plaque calcification (PC) in our PD patient population and whether stratification of calcification based on severity seen on ultrasound would serve as a predictor of treatment progression to surgery.
METHODS: A retrospective review of 1,041 men presenting with PD from 1993 to 2009 was performed. Eight hundred thirty-four underwent penile dupl

INTRODUCTION: We describe a new surgical technique for the treatment of penile curvature that combines features of the Nesbit procedure with features of tunical plication. U-shaped flaps of tunica albuginea are freed from the corpus cavernosum. The flaps are brought under the remaining tunica albuginea and are fixated with single absorbable sutures. As the defects of the tunica are sealed tightly and with high tensile strength by double layers of tunica albuginea, correction of the abnormal curvature is achieved.
AIM: To present our experience with a new surgical technique for the treatment o

The aim of the present study was to evaluate changes in clinical characteristics of Peyronie's disease (PD) patients under oral colchicine treatment in comparison with the initial clinical evaluation with a special emphasis on patients with altered deformity after treatment. A total of 118 patients under oral treatment with colchicine for at least 3 months in the acute phase of PD were retrospectively evaluated with combined infection and stimulation test. PD patients were followed up in four groups according to the clinical course of the deformity: improved, remained unchanged, deteriorated d

Fibroblastic rheumatism (FR) is a rare disease first described by Chaouat (in Rev Rhum Mal Osteoartic 47:345-351, 1980) and is characterized by a combination of rheumatologic and dermatological manifestations. Rheumatologic features are symmetrical polyarthralgias with joint stiffness, associated with cutaneous nodules and sclerodactyly. Histology shows an increased number of fibroblasts and a marked dermal fibrosis. A large number of treatments have been tried, but all of them have shown an unpredictable effect on FR. We report a Brazilian case of FR showing a good clinical response to methot

BACKGROUND: Peyronie's disease (PD) is defined as a fibrotic disease of the penis resulting in plaque formation and abnormal penile curvature. The incidence of PD has been suggested to increase after radical prostatectomy (RP). Hypoxia in the corpus cavernosum secondary to nerve injury has been suggested to be one of the causative factors for development of erectile dysfunction following RP. It is also known that hypoxia can cause fibrosis in vitro and in animal models. We therefore hypothesized that men who develop PD after RP do so due to hypoxia.
AIM: To investigate if hypoxia and fibrotic

Collagenase clostridium histolyticum (CCH) was FDA-approved for treating Peyronie's Disease (PD), demonstrating significant curvature improvement in patients during the stable phase of disease. In this retrospective cohort study, we aimed to assess the safety and effectiveness of intralesional CCH injections during the acute phase of PD. We retrospectively evaluated all men who received intralesional CCH for PD at a single academic institution between July 2017 and January 2023, focusing on patient demographics, comorbidities, pre- and post-treatment curvature, and adverse events. Patients in

INTRODUCTION: Erectile dysfunction (ED) represents the major cause of male sexual dysfunction, which is often associated with obesity, diabetes mellitus, atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, and cigarette smoking. Peyronie's disease is a chronic disorder associated with irreversible fibrotic damage of the tunica albuginea leading to ED, painful erection, coital disturbance, and physical and social complaints. Both conditions are characterized by chronic inflammation, oxidative stress, and significant changes in intracavernous hydrodynamics. In this scenario, oxidized lipoproteins, M1-polari
