Predictive Modeling of Bacterial Inactivation With Hydrogen Peroxide Over a Cobalt Ferrite Catalyst.

Hydrogen peroxide activated by a cobalt ferrite catalyst generates hydroxyl radicals that effectively inactivate bacteria. A continuous-flow packed-bed reactor containing cobalt ferrite was developed and tested for bacterial disinfection. The inactivation kinetics were highly nonlinear. The classical Weibull model accurately described the initial decline in bacterial counts at low H2O2 concentration (3 mM) but lost accuracy at longer contact times and higher concentrations (6-10 mM). To improve prediction, 10 machine learning algorithms were evaluated. Gradient boosting (GB) and random forest

Research progress on the damage of lipid peroxidation to the body and its correlation with metabolic diseases.

Lipid peroxidation is a critical oxidative stress response implicated in the pathogenesis of numerous metabolic diseases, including cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). While its role in damaging cellular components such as membranes, proteins, and DNA is well-documented, a significant translational gap persists between our mechanistic understanding and the development of effective clinical interventions. This review critically examines this disconnect by proposing and applying a three-tiered analytical framework. First, we identify and compare the

Calcium-tolerant electrode strategy for efficient hydrogen peroxide electrosynthesis in natural water.

Calcium scaling is traditionally regarded as a major impediment to the practical application of decentralized H2O2 electrosynthesis via two-electron oxygen reduction reaction (2e- ORR). Herein, we demonstrate that the calcium scale unexpectedly enhances H2O2 electroproduction. Dissolved Ca2+, rather than precipitated scale, is the dominant factor suppressing H2O2 electrosynthesis. Interfacial enrichment of Ca2+ facilitates water dissociation and proton accessibility, shifting the pathway toward 4e- ORR. To address this challenge, a quaternary ammonium cationic surfactant-modified cathode is de

Sterilization efficacy of a warm-air circulation system in a vaporized hydrogen peroxide sterilizer.

BACKGROUND: Vaporized hydrogen peroxide (VH2O2) sterilization is a widely recognized method for low-temperature sterilization of medical devices. To overcome limitations associated with residual moisture and maximize sterilization efficacy, the integration of a warm-air circulation system (WACS) is proposed as a robust solution. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of the WACS by comparing temperature uniformity and moisture removal with and without its operation. Additionally, the study assessed whether the WACS contributes to effective sterilization under conditions involving

Sex-Specific lipid peroxidation profile and clinical features in a cognitive impairment cohort.

BACKGROUND: Alzheimer's disease (AD) displays a sex imbalance; women represent two-thirds of cases and often progress faster. Lipid peroxidation contributes to AD neurotoxicity from the oxidation of fatty acids can. However, how sex modulates plasma lipid peroxidation across clinical stages remains poorly characterized. This study examines sex- and AD clinical stage-related patterns in these plasma compounds. METHODS: Plasma lipid peroxidation compounds were quantified by liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry in a clinical cohort stratified into 6 groups (cognitively unimpaired (without AD

A selective near-infrared fluorescent probe for detecting hydrogen peroxide in Alzheimer's disease.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder with growing incidence among younger populations, highlighting the urgent need for early and accurate detection of AD-related biomarkers. Excessive production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), particularly hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), induces oxidative stress, leading to neuronal damage and death, which implicates H2O2 as a potential biomarker for AD. In this study, leveraging the advantages of fluorescence imaging, we developed a novel near-infrared (NIR) fluorescent probe, LDMD-B, capable of selectively detecting H2O2 through

Hydrogen peroxide and cisplatin regulate the ROS/PKM2 pathway to affect the growth of cancer.

Aberrant production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) cause DNA damage which led to the chronic diseases and cancer. During glycolysis, the enzyme pyruvate kinase M2 (PKM2) is responsible for energy metabolism and its overexpression can be found in various malignancies. To investigate the impact of PKM2 and ROS, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and cisplatin were used. This study showed that H2O2 and cisplatin induced ROS production and apoptosis in these four tumor cells: pancreatic cancer, oral cancer, gastric cancer, and hepatocellular carcinoma. In addition, H2O2- and cisplatin-increased apoptosis

Metal-induced oxidation of polysorbate 80 in the presence of hydrogen peroxide: mechanistic studies.

Polysorbate 80 (PS80) is a commonly used surfactant in protein formulations and is highly susceptible to oxidative degradation. Here, we present mechanistic studies on metal-induced PS80 oxidation in the presence of hydrogen peroxide in acetate buffer. A total of 12 pharmaceutically relevant metal ions were tested, including Mn(II), Cu(II), Cu(I), Mg(II), Zn(II), Ca(II), Al(III), Pb(II), Sn(II), Co(II), Fe(III), Ni(II) and W(IV). The overall PS80 degradation was monitored by a fluorescence micelle assay (FMA) and the oxidation products were characterized by mass spectrometry (MS). Three metal

Electrochemical Detection of Hydrogen Peroxide at High Concentrations Using Hastelloy G35 Electrode

The detection of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) at elevated concentrations while eliminating oxygen interference presents a significant challenge. Nickel-based stainless steel, such as Hastelloy G35, has shown excellent corrosion resistance. However, it has never been used in electroanalysis. In this study, the electrochemical analysis of H2O2 was conducted for the first time using nickel-based stainless steel electrode. The Hastelloy G35 electrode exhibited a very wide linear range from 1 up to 1000 mM and a detection limit of 0.0135 mM. The method is free from interference by oxygen. This method e

PhospholipaseA2VI mediates the lipid peroxidation-ferroptosis axis to regulate rooster sperm motility.

We identified individuals with substantial differences in sperm motility among high-motility sperm samples preserved under various conditions. Phospholipase A2 group VI (PLA2G6) was upregulated in the low-motility group (LMG) by integrating seminal plasma metabolome and epididymal transcriptome data. LMG exhibited increased malondialdehyde and Fe²⁺ levels, whereas the sperm's membrane integrity and glutathione peroxidase 4's activity were reduced. Targeted PLA2G6 activity inhibition led to a substantial reduction in PLA2G6 activity and lysophosphatidylcholine levels in the SP, accompanied by i

The CuB site in particulate methane monooxygenase may be used to produce hydrogen peroxide.

Particulate methane monooxygenase (pMMO) is the most efficient of the two groups of enzymes that can hydroxylate methane. The enzyme is membrane bound and therefore hard to study experimentally. For that reason, there is still no consensus regarding the location and nature of the active site. We have used combined quantum mechanical and molecular mechanical (QM/MM) methods to study the reactivity of the CuB site with a histidine brace and two additional histidine ligands. We compare it with the similar active site of lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases. We show that the CuB site can form a rea

Copper peroxide-triggered reactive nitrogen effectively enhanced synergistic chemodynamic-immunotherapy.

Overcoming the limitations of chemodynamic therapy (CDT), constrained by the transient nature and limited bioavailability of reactive oxygen species (ROS), this study proposes a synergistic strategy integrating CDT with immunotherapy. We engineered a multifunctional nanocarrier, HMSN-Met@HA-CuO₂, leveraging CuO2 to amplify intracellular ROS generation and induce cuproptosis. Concurrently, metformin (Met) releases nitric oxide (NO), which scavenges ROS to generate more stable reactive nitrogen species (RNS). These RNS elicit sustained and irreversible damage to lipids, proteins, and deoxyribonu

Passivation-Engineered Zinc Peroxide Nanoparticles as Th1-Biased Adjuvant for Antitumor Immunity.

The efficacy of cancer vaccines depends significantly on adjuvants that can stimulate robust Th1 immune responses. However, conventional inorganic adjuvants like Alum generally elicit Th2-biased immune response. Despite recent efforts in developing organic adjuvants to mimic bacterial or viral infections for generating Th1 immunity, excessive inflammation remains a major concern. Herein, a new class of Th1-biased adjuvant is reported via passivation engineering of zinc peroxide nanoparticles (p-ZPNs) for potentiating the immunogenicity of cancer vaccines. p-ZPNs show improved biocompatibility

Targeted platelet with hydrogen peroxide responsive behavior for non-alcoholic steatohepatitis detection.

The most common chronic liver illness, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), refers to a range of abnormalities of the liver with varying degrees of steatosis. When the clinical symptoms including liver damage, inflammation, and fibrosis, are added to the initial steatosis, NAFLD becomes non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), the problematic and severe stage. The diagnosis of NASH at the right time could therefore effectively prevent deterioration of the disease. Considering that platelets (PLTs) could migrate to the sites of inflamed liver sinusoids with oxidative stress during the develo

Hydrogen Peroxide Quantification Using Zero Dimensional Carbon Nanostructured Materials: A Review.

Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is suspected to promote cancer. Higher concentrations of H2O2 have always harmed mammalian cells, other living things, as well as the environment. As well, elevated concentrations of H2O2 might cause major health problems such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, asthma, Alzheimer's disease, etc. As all, bioanalysis, environmental protection, and food security are needed for the rapid and accurate sensing of H2O2. For the sensing of H2O2, nanoparticle construction of carbon-based sensors has been used. Zero-dimensional (0D) nanostructures or nanosized designs of carbon-b
