The Matthiass posture test is a clinical test to detect posture changes in children and adolescents. Aim of this study was to objectify this test using a dynamic rasterstereographic measuring device. We examined 31 healthy athletes during a modified Matthiass test with a dynamic rasterstereographic measuring system. Hereby the trunk inclination, kyphosis and lordosis angle were measured. Torticollis in children is a frequently encountered problem. Whereas non-traumatic torticollis usually allows a non-urgent work-up, traumatic torticollis-even in the absence of neurologic abnormalities-needs prompt analysis for structural damage of the spinal column and myelum. Open mouth posture and maxillary arch width were assessed annually for 4 years in a group of children. While younger children exhibited high levels of open mouth posture, this behavior decreased significantly over time. Self-report data on musculoskeletal discomfort were collected from several hundred VDT users in two agencies of a state government. Aspects of worker posture and workstation design were objectively assessed for 40 of the VDT users. Multiple regression analyses were used to examine the relationship between these ergonomic variables and musculoskeletal discomfort. Pressures were measured at two levels in the esophagus in 14 young healthy subjects performing slow inspiratory and expiratory vital capacity (VC) maneuvers in upright and head-down posture (180 degrees body tilt).
