Effects of zoledronic acid on bone mineral density in premenopausal women receiving neoadjuvant or adjuvant therapies for HR+ breast cancer: the ProBONE II study.

UNLABELLED: The effects of bisphosphonates on altered bone turnover marker (BTM) levels associated with adjuvant endocrine or chemotherapy in early breast cancer have not been systematically investigated. In ProBONE II, zoledronic acid decreased these elevated BTM levels and increased bone mineral density (BMD) during adjuvant therapy, consistent with its antiresorptive effects. INTRODUCTION: Adjuvant chemotherapy or endocrine therapy for early hormone receptor-positive breast cancer (HR(+) BC) is associated with rapid BMD loss and altered BTM levels. Adjuvant bisphosphonate studies demonstra

Relationship between bone turnover biomarkers, mandibular bone mineral density, and systemic skeletal bone mineral density in premenopausal and postmenopausal Indian women.

OBJECTIVE: Postmenopausal osteoporosis is one of the most common metabolic bone disorders. Osteoporosis is reported to cause bone loss in the alveolar processes of maxilla and mandible, which provide bony framework for tooth anchorage. However, the association between systemic osteoporosis and oral health remains controversial. Available evidence suggests that Indian women have lower peak bone mass than their Western/other Asian counterparts. The present study evaluated the relationship between mandibular bone mineral density (mBMD), systemic skeletal BMD, and bone metabolism in premenopausal

Bone density, geometry, microstructure, and stiffness: Relationships between peripheral and central skeletal sites assessed by DXA, HR-pQCT, and cQCT in premenopausal women.

High-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography (HR-pQCT) is a new in vivo imaging technique for assessing 3D microstructure of cortical and trabecular bone at the distal radius and tibia. No studies have investigated the extent to which measurements of the peripheral skeleton by HR-pQCT reflect those of the spine and hip, where the most serious fractures occur. To address this research question, we performed dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), central QCT (cQCT), HR-pQCT, and image-based finite-element analyses on 69 premenopausal women to evaluate relationships among cortical

Effects of lycopene on the insulin-like growth factor (IGF) system in premenopausal breast cancer survivors and women at high familial breast cancer risk.

Insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) is an important growth factor associated with increased risk of premenopausal breast cancer. We conducted a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind, crossover trial to evaluate whether tomato-derived lycopene supplementation (30 mg/day for 2 mo) decreases serum levels of total IGF-I in premenopausal women with 1) a history of breast cancer (n=24) or 2) a high familial breast cancer risk (n=36). Also, IGF binding protein (IGFBP) increasing effects were evaluated. Lycopene supplementation did not significantly alter serum total IGF-I and other IGF system

Ketosis suppression and ageing (KetoSAge): the effect of suppressing ketosis on SHBG and sex hormone profiles in healthy premenopausal women, and its implications for cancer risk and therapy.

INTRODUCTION: Insulin resistance and hyperinsulinaemia significantly influence female hormone regulation and reproductive health. Despite increasing research, the complex pathways by which nutritional and metabolic signals regulate reproductive function remain poorly understood. Sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) is a key protein whose function is modulated by hyperinsulinaemia, liver function, and metabolic status, thereby influencing the active signalling of circulating sex steroids and intracellular signalling, which in turn, impacts endocrine and reproductive physiology. Consequently, SHB

Assessing the association between combined oral contraceptive use, selected biomarkers, and depressive episodes among premenopausal women: a protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Combined oral contraceptives (COCs) are widely used among premenopausal women because of their contraceptive efficacy and favourable safety profile. However, concerns remain regarding their potential association with depressive symptoms and major depressive disorder (MDD), possibly mediated through alterations in neurochemical, inflammatory, and neurotrophic biomarkers. Hence, this study aims to provide a comprehensive synthesis of the available evidence on the link between COC and selected biomarkers associated with MDD risk and to assess whether the reported outcome is associated

Effectiveness of a 6-Month 22.5-mg Leuprolide Acetate Depot Formulation With Tamoxifen for Postoperative Premenopausal Estrogen Suppression in Hormone Receptor-Positive Breast Cancer.

BACKGROUND: In patients with hormone receptor-positive (HR+)/premenopausal breast cancer, luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone analogs (LHRHas) are used as standard endocrine treatment. Based on previous clinical studies, 1-month formulations are recommended in most breast cancer treatment guidelines, but long-acting formulations facilitate reductions in side effects and patient discomfort caused by frequent administration. However, few efficacy studies have been conducted on 6-month formulations. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of 6-month formulations of LHRHas. METHODS

Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone Agonists for Ovarian Function Preservation in Premenopausal Women Undergoing Chemotherapy for Early-Stage Breast Cancer: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

IMPORTANCE: Chemotherapy may result in a detrimental effect on ovarian function and fertility in premenopausal women undergoing treatment for early-stage breast cancer (EBC). To minimize risk of harm to ovarian function and fertility for patients in this setting, careful considerations should be made. Gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonists (GnRHa) have been suggested as an alternative to prevent the loss of ovarian function due to exposure to cytotoxic agents, but GnRHa use for ovarian protection in EBC patients is not fully resolved. OBJECTIVE: To determine the effectiveness of GnRHa admini

Ovarian reserve alterations in premenopausal women with chronic inflammatory rheumatic diseases: impact of rheumatoid arthritis, Behçet's disease and spondyloarthritis on anti-Müllerian hormone levels.

OBJECTIVE: Recent publications have shown a negative influence of SLE on female ovarian reserve. Other authors have not found a significant impact of Crohn's disease or early RA on anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) levels. This study aimed to investigate the potential effect of Behçet's disease (BD), RA and SpA on ovarian reserve as reflected by serum AMH levels. METHODS: Serum samples from 33 RA, 32 SpA and 30 BD patients without previous cytotoxic treatment were analysed and compared with age-matched, healthy controls. AMH was quantified using a standard ELISA with a standard value of 1-8 ng/ml;
