Robot-assisted resection of GIST in the proximal jejunum.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are rare. Although most commonly found in the stomach, GISTs in the jejunum are among the rarest subtypes. A 46-year-old woman presented to the surgical department with proximal jejunal mass found in the examinations after abdominal pain and melena. Computed tomography imaging showed a 2.3 cm sized well-defined heterogenous enhancing mass in the proximal jejunum, and GIST was strongly suspected. The jejunal mass was identified 5 cm below the ligament of Treitz intraoperatively. She underwent robotic-assisted jejunal resection with intracorporeal robot-se

Robotic Fundoplication for Large Paraesophageal Hiatal Hernias.

PURPOSE: Laparoscopic fundoplication is now a cornerstone in the treatment of gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD) with sliding hernia. The best outcomes are achieved in those patients who have some response to medical treatment compared to those who do not. Robotic fundoplication is considered a novel approach in treating GERD with large paraesophageal hiatal hernias. Our goal was to examine the feasibility of this technique. METHODS: Seventy patients (23 males and 47 females) with mean age 64 y old (22-92), preoperatively diagnosed with a large paraesophageal hiatal hernia, were treated

[Robot-Assisted Repeated Fundoplication in Children and Adolescents].

BACKGROUND: Recurrent gastroesophageal reflux symptoms in adolescents and young adults who underwent fundoplication in childhood present a technical challenge for the surgeon. The distal oesophagus and hiatus are difficult to access by laparotomy, the anatomy is modified by the primary procedure, and there are often dense adhesions between important structures. Robot-assisted surgery may be advantageous, because of the three dimensional (3D) view and the multiaxial freedom of movement afforded by the system. PURPOSE: To describe our experience with robot-assisted Nissen re-fundoplication in a

Intracorporeal Urinary Diversion in Robotic Radical Cystectomy.

Robotic-assisted radical cystectomy has gained increasing popularity over the past decade. Initially, the procedure was performed with extracorporeal urinary diversion given the technical challenges of the intracorporeal approach. Since then, innovative techniques have been described to facilitate bowel manipulation, assess ureteral and mesenteric vasculature, and perform ureteroenteric and urethro-ileal anastomosis. Overcoming the learning curve associated with intracorporeal urinary diversion can lead to decreased blood loss, shorter operative times, and faster convalescence, particularly wi

Portomesenteric thrombosis after robotic sleeve gastrectomy.

Portomesenteric thrombosis is an important but rarely reported complication following bariatric surgery. It has been suggested that the incidence of portal vein thrombosis is directly related to many risk factors inherent in the bariatric population as well as factors related to local and systemic effects of laparoscopic surgery. Possible aetiologies vary from systemic inherited hypercoagulable states to a direct inflammatory reaction of portosystemic vessels. Here we present a case report of a 47-year-old obese women who underwent a robotic sleeve gastrectomy with subsequent development of a

Stable Grasp Control With a Robotic Exoskeleton Glove.

An exoskeleton robotic glove intended for patients who have suffered paralysis of the hand due to stroke or other factors has been developed and integrated. The robotic glove has the potential to aid patients with grasping objects as part of their daily life activities. Grasp stability was studied and researched by various research groups, but mainly focused on robotic grippers by devising conditions for a stable grasp of objects. Maintaining grasp stability is important so as to reduce the chances of the object slipping and dropping. But there was little focus on the grasp stability of roboti
