Factors Associated With Primary Site Local Therapy in Patients With Nonmetastatic Ewing Sarcoma Treated With Interval-Compressed Chemotherapy: A Report From the Children's Oncology Group.

PURPOSE: Local therapy (LT) is a critical component of curative treatment for Ewing sarcoma (ES). This analysis evaluated clinical and treatment variables associated with local failure (LF) risk for nonmetastatic patients with ES. METHODS AND MATERIALS: AEWS1031 was a phase 3 randomized trial comparing 2 interval-compressed chemotherapy regimens. Patients who completed induction chemotherapy and started LT of the primary tumor site were analyzed. LT was surgery alone (S), definitive radiation therapy (RT), or surgery and RT (S+RT), and was determined by the treating investigator. The primary

Treatment of metastatic Ewing sarcoma/primitive neuroectodermal tumor of bone: evaluation of increasing the dose intensity of chemotherapy--a report from the Children's Oncology Group.

BACKGROUND: The outcome for patients with Ewing sarcoma family of tumors (ESFTs) of bone with metastases at diagnosis remains poor despite new approaches to treatment. We evaluated whether a dose-intensity chemotherapy regimen improved survival for patients with ESFTs of bone with metastases at diagnosis. METHODS: We entered 60 patients with metastatic ESFTs of bone onto a single arm trial of a new intensive therapy. Treatment consisted of 51-weeks of chemotherapy and local control of the primary with radiation, surgery, or both. The chemotherapeutic protocol included two alternating blocks:

Limb Salvage for Entire Tibial Ewing Sarcoma in a 4-year-Old Child Using Extracorporeal Irradiation and Free Flap Reconstruction: A Case Report and Surgical Technique.

INTRODUCTION: Ewing sarcoma of the tibial shaft in a very young child presents a significant limb-salvage challenge. Treatment requires effective local control while preserving limb function and accommodating future growth. Extracorporeal irradiation (ECI) with reimplantation is a biological reconstruction technique that utilizes the patient's own sterilized tumor-bearing bone. CASE REPORT: We present the case of a 4-year-old boy diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma involving the right tibial shaft. Staging investigations revealed localized disease with intense uptake on bone scan and a small, non-sp

Primary Renal Ewing Sarcoma Presenting With Divergent Radiological Phenotypes: A Radiology-Focused Case Series Featuring the Mimicking of Renal Cell Carcinoma and Urinary Tract Urothelial Carcinoma.

Primary renal Ewing sarcoma/primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET) is an exceptionally rare and highly aggressive malignancy belonging to the Ewing sarcoma family of tumors (ESFT). Owing to its nonspecific clinical and imaging appearance, it frequently mimics more common renal malignancies, particularly renal cell carcinoma (RCC), resulting in diagnostic difficulty and delayed therapeutic decision-making. We present a radiology-oriented case report of two female patients with histopathologically confirmed primary renal Ewing sarcoma demonstrating markedly different imaging phenotypes. The firs

A Diagnostic Challenge: Retroperitoneal Extraskeletal Ewing Sarcoma with Subaortic Growth and Partial Aortic Encasement Presenting with Nephrolithiasis-Like Symptoms in a Middle-Aged South Asian Male.

Ewing sarcoma is an atypical and aggressive bone malignancy, most commonly observed in the pediatric population. Looking at epidemiological data shows that individuals of Caucasian descent are most susceptible to the disease, which additionally show a slight male predominance. We present the case of a 46-year-old male of South Asian descent who came into an outpatient clinic complaining of ongoing pain in the left posterior flank. The clinical picture initially raised suspicion for recurrent Nephrolithiasis because of the patient's previous medical history. The patient was advised to get a CT

Case report: successful treatment of primary intradural extramedullary extraskeletal Ewing sarcoma in adult patient with intralesional surgery, chemotherapy, and proton beam therapy of the cerebrospinal axis.

Ewing sarcoma is a rare malignant neoplasm that primarily affects bone in children. Extraskeletal location is less common, while intradural extramedullary Ewing sarcoma (IEES) in adults is a casuistic phenomenon. Due to its rarity, a standardized treatment strategy for IEES has not been established. The clinical use of proton beam therapy (PBT) for craniospinal irradiation (CSI) in the treatment of IEES has not been reported in the literature. A 41-year-old previously healthy man presented with disabling gluteal and lower extremity pain, decreased sensation, and progressive paraparesis without

Inadvertently boarding a pirate ship: disease progression in a paediatric patient with relapsed metastatic Ewing sarcoma receiving treatment at a centre for alternative therapy in Mexico.

Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) therapies are commonly incorporated into the care of patients with paediatric cancer. Many modalities are safe and effective during cancer treatment and have proved beneficial for symptom relief and quality of life. However, situations where alternative therapy is provided without allopathic medical care supportive care resources can pose a safety risk to patients. This report describes the case of a 16-year-old Chinese girl with metastatic Ewing sarcoma who sought treatment with alternative treatment in Mexico. When her disease progressed with an e

Surgical resection with neoadjuvant chemotherapy for iliac Ewing's sarcoma in adult females: A rare case report highlighting multidisciplinary approaches and promising outcomes.

INTRODUCTION ET IMPORTANCE: The iliac origin Ewing's sarcoma is a highly malignant primitive bone tumor. Its occurrence in adults is very rare. The prognosis for this tumor in adult patients is unfavorable and has a high rate of local recurrence. The main treatment goals include preventing local recurrences and distant metastases. A secondary objective is to maintain the quality of life by avoiding major amputative surgery. The primary aim of this report is to underscore the rarity and significance of the combination of surgery with neoadjuvant chemotherapy for better outcomes. CASE PRESENTAT

Primary Spinal Intradural Extramedullary Ewing's Sarcoma/Peripheral Neuroectodermal Tumour Masquerading Clinically as a Neurogenic Tumour: A Case Report and Review of Literature.

Ewing's Sarcomas (ES)/Peripheral neuroectodermal tumour (pPNET) are heterogenous group of rare, highly malignant, undifferentiated primitive round-cell neoplasms of neuroectodermal origin. pPNETs are seldom observed to involve the spine of which Spinal Intradural Extramedullary Extraosseous Primary ES/pPNET are extremely rare. We report a case of a 23-year-old male with complaints of low backache and hip pain radiating to the left inguinal region for four months. Radiology findings were suggestive of a neurogenic tumour. Cytomorphology, histomorphology and immunohistochemistry evaluation were

Bee-sting, a non-resolving wound and a progressive mass over the right eye preceding the ultimate diagnosis of frontal bone Ewing's sarcoma.

A healthy young lady suffered a bee-sting over her right eyelid which was followed by pain, redness and swelling at, above and beyond the right eyelid. Although the initial swelling subsided, the patient noticed a small 'lump', superior to the eyelid which persisted after the rest of the swelling disappeared. This lump subsequently progressed over a span of 3 months and then caused ulceration of the overlying skin. Further testing revealed the lump to be an Ewing's sarcoma arising from the frontal bone. The patient was treated with standard chemotherapy (16 cycles of vincristine, doxoru

Establishment of a new continuous clear cell sarcoma cell line. Morphological and cytogenetic characterization and detection of chimaeric EWS/ATF-1 transcripts.

Clear cell sarcoma (CCS), a rare tumour of deep soft tissues, often has a t(12; 22) (q13; q12) translocation that induces the formation of a hybrid EWS/ATF-1 gene. To investigate these alterations further, we established a new continuous cell line directly from a CCS taken from a 9-year-old girl. The cultures were characterized with respect to morphological, ultrastructural, immunohistochemical and karyotypical features and were tested by reverse transcription PCR (RT-PCR) for chimaeric EWS/ATF-1 transcripts. The continuous cell line, designated KAO, is tumorigenic in nude mice, and the result

Development and internal validation of dual overall and cancer-specific survival nomograms for primary spinal and sacropelvic Ewing sarcoma: a population-based study of 346 patients.

BACKGROUND: Primary spinal Ewing sarcoma (ES) is exceptionally rare, and existing prognostic evidence is largely derived from mixed-site cohorts that fail to capture the spine-specific clinical and biological profile. Accurate, site-specific prognostication remains unavailable, limiting consistency in clinical decision-making. This study aimed to define independent prognostic determinants for spinal ES and to develop and internally validate dedicated nomograms and a risk-stratification system for both overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS). METHODS: Patients diagnosed with p

Pelvic Ring Reconstruction After Iliac or Iliosacral Resection of Pediatric Pelvic Ewing Sarcoma: Use of a Double-Barreled Free Vascularized Fibular Graft and Minimal Spinal Instrumentation.

BACKGROUND: In patients undergoing iliosacral resections, pelvic ring reconstruction can maintain stability of the pelvis and spinal column, which is expected to achieve good functional outcomes. However, no optimal reconstruction method has been established. We aimed to analyze the outcome of pelvic ring reconstruction using double-barreled free vascularized fibular graft (FVFG) and internal fixation after iliosacral resections in children. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 16 children with pelvic Ewing sarcoma who underwent pelvic ring reconstruction using double-barreled FVFG after ilio

Ewing Sarcoma of the Female Genital Tract: Clinicopathologic Analysis of 21 Cases With an Emphasis on the Differential Diagnosis of Gynecologic Round Cell, Spindle, and Epithelioid Neoplasms.

Ewing sarcoma is an uncommon neoplasm considered in the differential diagnosis of tumors with "small round cell" morphology, but its occurrence in the gynecologic tract has only been sporadically documented. Herein, we describe the largest cohort of Ewing sarcoma localized to the female genital tract to date, and emphasize their clinicopathologic resemblance to more common gynecologic neoplasms. Ewing sarcoma (n=21) was retrospectively identified from 5 institutions. The average patient age was 35 (range 6-61) years. Tumor sites included uterus (n=8), cervix (n=4), vulva (n=5), vagina (n=1), b
