Linear Morphea With Inflammatory Myositis.

Morphea is an autoimmune disorder characterized by sclerosis and inflammation of the skin and soft tissues. Early diagnosis and treatment are essential to minimize morbidity such as joint contracture. In this report, we present the case of a 19-year-old man with linear morphea with inflammatory myositis who presented to our clinic 1 year after symptom onset with severe elbow flexion contracture. Through reviewing this rare disorder, it is hoped that early diagnosis will lead to better outcomes in the future.

[Post-irradiation morphea in brest cancer: a case report].

We report the case of a caucasian woman of 44 years old with no personal medical history. She was diagnosed breast carcinoma and underwent right partial mastectomy with adjuvant radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Four years after the intervention, presented a indurated plaque. Biopsy was performed and the diagnosis of morpheawas confirmed by histopathological examination.

[Overlap syndrome].

The overlap syndromes are characterized by the occurrence in the same patient of two or more autoimmune diseases. The overlap syndrome between scleroderma and polymyositis is rare. We describe a case of a 58-year-old woman in which the clinical expression, the effect of therapy and the evolution, support the concept that this syndrome is a distinct clinical entity in the spectrum of autoimmune disease.

[Plaque-type scleroderma associated with linear and oesophageal features and facial and extra-facial hemiatrophy].

BACKGROUND: Association of scleroderma with hemiatrophy is rare. The case we describe is unusual because of the combination in the same patient of several sub-types of scleroderma with oesophageal involvement and facial and extra-facial hemiatrophy. CASE REPORT: A 38-year-old women suffering from plaque-type morphea presented oesophageal dysfunction during the course of her disease with positive anti-Scl70-antibodies and progressive right-sided hemiatrophy of the face, sternocleidomastoid, thumb and thenar eminence. Linear hyperpigmentation of the right arm and a "coup de sabre" appearance on

Breast enlargement induced by D-penicillamine.

OBJECTIVE: To report a patient with reversible breast enlargement due to D-penicillamine treatment for scleroderma. CASE SUMMARY: A 55-year-old white woman developed enlarged breasts during D-penicillamine therapy for scleroderma. The enlargement regressed following discontinuation of the drug, and planned breast reduction surgery was avoided. DISCUSSION: D-Penicillamine has been used in the treatment of various diseases including scleroderma. Breast enlargement has been previously described as a rare adverse effect of this drug. The enlargement subsided following discontinuation of the medi

Repair of wide coup de sabre without cutaneous excision by means of pericranial-galeal padding flap.

A case of double linear scleroderma of the forehead (coup de sabre) is described. The histopathology of this rare lesion is now well known with a normal epidermis and a sclerotic dermis. The correction was done with an original two-stage procedure: the lesion with alopecia was first treated by excision-suture and a transfer of the involved subcutaneous tissue along the right inner canthus; 1 year later, by a hemicoronal incision, we transferred a galeal-pericranial flap beneath the wider forehead lesion. We think that the use of a filling flap to correct wide coup de sabre lesions without cuta

Ulcerated dystrophic calcinosis cutis secondary to localised linear scleroderma.

Dystrophic calcinosis is a more common form of calcinosis cutis; calcium salts are deposited secondary to local inflammation, tissue damage and degeneration. Various conditions can cause dystrophic calcinosis, including connective tissue disease, infection, inflammatory processes, chronic venous stasis, cutaneous neoplasm and trauma. We report a case of ulcerated cutaneous calcinosis associated with a localised linear scleroderma or morphea. Healing of the ulcerations took place after four months of treatment with colchicine 1 mg per day.

A localised morphoea/idiopathic polymyositis overlap.

A 54-year-old female presented with a three-year history of proximal muscle weakness and arthralgia. EMG, muscle enzymes and biopsy and other tests were consistent with idiopathic polymyositis. At a later stage, she developed plaques of morphoea involving the dorsum of hands and forearms. There was no evidence of systemic sclerosis throughout the course of the disease. In our opinion, such association appeared as an unusual overlap syndrome that provided a new constellation of features in connective tissue disease.

[Exposure to solvents in scleroderma: disseminated circumscribed scleroderma (morphea) in a painter exposed to perchloroethylene].

We report on a 45-year-old painter who developed morphea-like scleroderma. He had been exposed to perchlorethylene for one year while operating a metal degreaser; the perchlorethylene concentration in the workplace ranged between 10 and 25 ppm. Whereas systemic scleroderma has frequently been attributed to solvent exposure in the past, this is only the third description of a morphea-like scleroderma suspected to be related to occupational contact with organic solvents.

Zosteriform atrophoderma of Pasini and Pierini.

Astophoderma of Pasini and Pierini is generally regarded as an atrophic variant of morphoea. It arises most commonly on the trunk and abdomen. We describe a 53-year-old man who had a 12-year history of unilateral atrophoderma of Pasini and Pierini affecting the left side of his trunk in a zosteriform distribution. Within these clinically atrophic lesions, there were localized areas of induration which were typical of morphoea. The patient also had a preceding history of balanitis xerotica obliterans. The occurrence of atrophoderma of Pasini and Pierini, morphoea and lichen sclerosus within the

The clinical spectrum of lipodermatosclerosis.

Lipodermatosclerosis refers to the skin induration and hyperpigmentation of the legs that often occurs in patients who have venous insufficiency. Lipodermatosclerosis has also been termed hypodermitis sclerodermiformis and appears to be similar if not-identical to the recently described sclerosing panniculitis of the leg. There has been much confusion about the nature, clinical course, and treatment of lipodermatosclerosis. We believe that lipodermatosclerosis has an acute, inflammatory phase and a chronic, fibrotic stage, although a spectrum exists. Direct immunofluorescence studies of early

Subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus lesions progressing to morphea.

A women had annular lesions of subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus that slowly resolved and were replaced by plaques of morphea. The immunologic implications of this unique transitional case of subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus to morphea are discussed.

Porphyria cutanea tarda with cutaneous "scleroderma" and calcification.

An unusual case of porphria cutanea tarda (PCT) with sclerodermoid changes is reported. This case is remarkable for the extent of sclerodermoid changes and the presence of gross dystrophic calcification and ulceration in the sclerotic areas. The pathogenesis of this condition is discussed.
