Exposure to HIV-related stigma and mental health problems have both been reported by HIV-positive individuals. We analyzed the role of social support as a mediator in the relationship between HIV-associated stigma and mental health among adults living with HIV. A total of 303 people aged 18 years and over (M = 40.5; SD = 11.2) with an HIV diagnosis who were selected using a non-probability convenience sampling method in Trujillo, Peru, participated in this study. The Macro PROCESS program for SPSS was used for data analysis. We found that stigma exerts an indirect effect on the mental health a

BACKGROUND: Social cognition impairments-including difficulties in recognizing personally familiar faces-occur early in mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and can lead to social withdrawal, reduced motivation, and secondary depression. Face recognition is central to social cognition, yet its neural basis in MCI remains insufficiently understood. This study examined whether task-based fMRI during famous face recognition could capture early alterations in the parahippocampal gyrus (PHG) and posterior cingulate cortex (PCC), key nodes supporting semantic access and internally directed cognition with

INTRODUCTION: Cross-border mobility (CBM) to visit social network members or for everyday activities is an important part of daily life for citizens in border regions, including the Meuse-Rhine Euroregion (EMR: neighboring regions from the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany). We assessed changes in CBM during the COVID-19 pandemic and how participants experienced border restrictions.
METHODS: Impact of COVID-19 on the EMR' is a longitudinal study using comparative cross-border data collection. In 2021, a random sample of the EMR-population was invited for participation in online surveys to ass

The cerebellum has been involved in social abilities and autism. Given that the cerebellum is connected to the cortex via the cerebello-thalamo-cortical loop, the connectivity between the cerebellum and cortical regions involved in social interactions, that is, the right temporo-parietal junction (rTPJ) has been studied in individuals with autism, who suffer from prototypical deficits in social abilities. However, existing studies with small samples of categorical, case-control comparisons have yielded inconsistent results due to the inherent heterogeneity of autism, suggesting that investigat

BACKGROUND: This study aims to investigate the association between social behaviors of increased-risk donors (IRD) and recipient outcomes after heart transplantation.
METHODS: The United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) database was queried to identify patients who received a heart transplant between 2004 and 2015. Patients were grouped based on donor's risk status (IRD vs standard risk donor [SRD]). Recipients of IRD were categorized based on donor social behaviors (SB), and recipient survival was assessed. Cox regression analysis was used to identify associations between SB of donors and re

BACKGROUND: Enhancing the quality of life (QoL) of breast cancer survivors is a key public health priority. Spiritual well-being (SpWB) is recognized as a correlate, but its systemic role in connecting different life domains and how this varies by age remain unclear, hindering the generation of hypotheses for tailored support programs.
METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional study of 302 breast cancer patients (stages I-III) in active treatment. Using psychometric network analysis, we mapped the interconnections between QoL (FACT-B scale) and SpWB (FACIT-Sp-12). Centrality and bridge metrics

PURPOSE: Supporting self-management is one strategy to help cancer survivors optimise their quality of life. Low grade non-Hodgkin's lymphoma is often incurable with a chronic disease trajectory requiring lifelong self-management. This study explored the views on self-management and preferences for self-management support among survivors of low grade non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and their informal caregivers more than 6 months after completion of systemic anti-cancer therapy.
METHOD: In-depth semi-structured telephone interviews were conducted. Key themes and subthemes were determined using inducti

Child development research highlights caregiver regulation of infant physiology and behavior as a key feature of early life attachment, although mechanisms for maternal control of infant neural circuits remain elusive. Here we explored the neurobiology of maternal regulation of infant fear using neural network and molecular levels of analysis in a rodent model. Previous research has shown maternal suppression of amygdala-dependent fear learning during a sensitive period. Here we characterize changes in neural networks engaged during maternal regulation and the transition to infant self-regulat

As a potential threat to elementary students' psychological well-being, fear of negative evaluation (FNE) is common in academic life and may adversely affect cognitive, emotional, and behavioral development. In this study, network analysis was used to identify the core symptoms of FNE in 734 elementary school students and to examine the associations between FNE and self-confidence and family atmosphere. The results indicated that (1) the core FNE symptoms were: "I am afraid of not being recognized by others," "I am afraid that others will find fault with me," "When I talk to others, I worry ab

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by behavioral abnormalities such as poor social communication and stereotyped/repetitive behaviors. Functional dynamics among multiple cortical areas are associated with processing sensory information and planning and executing behavioral expressions. However, the reconfiguration of large-scale functional network dynamics during behaviors remains to be elucidated in ASD. In this review, we describe our virtual reality (VR) based real-time imaging system which allowed us to investigate wide-field cortical activity in

Although many countries have passed laws to ban the use of physical violence for purported educational purposes, the World Health Organization has stated that the enforcement of such laws is still a challenge. The study thus aimed to verify whether networks in Brazil for the protection and care of children and adolescents at risk are organized to enforce the Menino Bernardo Law (Law n. 13,010/2014). Using a qualitative and exploratory approach, the study interviewed 16 professional staff members from different services in these networks in a city in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The

BACKGROUND: Academic stress is prevalent among Chinese high school students and linked to adverse mental health outcomes, yet its interplay with rumination and resilience at the component level remains poorly understood from a cognitive transactional stress perspective.
AIMS: This study investigated the interrelationships among academic stress, rumination and resilience at the subdimension level, examining both concurrent network structures and their temporal dynamics across three time points.
SAMPLE: Three-wave longitudinal data were collected from 311 Chinese high school students (55.6% ma

BACKGROUND: In 2013, New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase (NDM)-producing Escherichia coli, a type of carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae uncommon in the United States, was identified in a tertiary care hospital (hospital A) in northeastern Illinois. The outbreak was traced to a contaminated duodenoscope. Patient-sharing patterns can be described through social network analysis and ego networks, which could be used to identify hospitals most likely to accept patients from a hospital with an outbreak.
METHODS: Using Illinois' hospital discharge data and the Illinois extensively drug-resistant org…

BACKGROUND: On 6th April 2018, the UK Government introduced the Soft Drinks Industry Levy (SDIL) as a mechanism designed to address increasing prevalence of obesity and associated ill health by reducing sugar consumption. Given that the successful introduction of upstream food and nutrition policies is a highly political enterprise involving multiple interested parties, understanding the complex network of stakeholders seeking to influence such policy decisions is imperative.

The identification of psychopathological markers has been the focus of several scientific fields. The results were inconsistent due to lack of a clear nosology. Network analysis, focusing on the interactions between symptoms, provided important insights into the nosology of mental disorders. These interactions originate several topological properties that could constitute markers of psychopathology. One of these properties is network connectivity, which has been explored in recent years. However, the results have been inconsistent, and the topological properties of psychopathological networks
