[Effect of amizil and the ACTH4-10 fragment on the ability of mice to extrapolate the direction of movement].

Mice possessing the ability to extrapolate the direction of movement (100% of correct choices) were injected i.p. with different doses of m-cholinolytic amizil 2 hours before experiment. Doses of 2-5 mg/kg reduced the percentage of correct choices, the adequate solving strategy being replaced by stereotyped unidirectional reactions or stereotyped alternating responses. Doses of 8-12 mg/kg induced "refusals" to solve extrapolation problem. When amizil treated mice were intraventricularly injected with 1 mg/kg of ACTH4-10, their extrapolation ability was restored. This compensatory action of pep

Cannabinoid-induced stimulation of motor activity in planaria through an opioid receptor-mediated mechanism.

Planaria, the most primitive example of centralization and cephalization of the nervous system along phylogeny, shows specific stereotyped behavioral patterns following exposure to drugs acting on neural transmission. In this study, the authors investigated the effects of exposure to the synthetic cannabinoid receptor agonist WTN55212.2 on motor activity in planaria. WTN55212.2 produced dose-dependent stimulation of motor behavior. High doses of the drug caused stereotyped activities identical to those seen previously with opioid agonists. These effects were antagonized by coexposure to cannab

Gendered racial microaggressions, self-silencing, and disordered eating in Black women.

Gendered racial microaggressions are defined as the nuanced expressions of oppression that Black women can encounter at the intersection of their racial and gender identities. In the present study, we tested the hypothesis that greater frequency of gendered racial microaggressions will be associated with higher body dissatisfaction, drive for thinness, and binge eating and examined whether self-silencing mediated this association. Participants were 570 U.S.-based Black women (age M = 37.51 years) who completed an online survey on Prolific. Women completed self-reported measures of disordered e

Gestational diabetes induces autistic-like behaviors in offspring by disrupting the GABAergic system.

BACKGROUND: Increasing evidence have shown that gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is associated with the risk of autism in offspring. However, the underlying mechanisms have not yet been fully elucidated. METHODS: A mouse model of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) was established to investigate its impact on offspring. Behavioral analyses were conducted to assess social novelty and stereotypic behaviors. Neuronal excitability in the prefrontal cortex (PFC) was evaluated using c-Fos staining after social behavior stimulation. Single-cell transcriptomics and metabolomics were employed to an

GABAB Receptor Agonist R-Baclofen Reverses Social Deficits and Reduces Repetitive Behavior in Two Mouse Models of Autism.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is diagnosed by two core behavioral criteria, unusual reciprocal social interactions and communication, and stereotyped, repetitive behaviors with restricted interests. Excitatory/inhibitory imbalance is a prominent hypothesis for the etiology of autism. The selective GABAB receptor agonist R-baclofen previously reversed social deficits and reduced repetitive behaviors in a mouse model of Fragile X syndrome, and Arbaclofen improved some clinical symptoms in some Fragile X and ASD patients. To evaluate R-baclofen in a broader range of mouse models of ASD, we teste

Motor and cognitive stereotypies in the BTBR T+tf/J mouse model of autism.

The BTBR T+tf/J inbred mouse strain displays a variety of persistent phenotypic alterations similar to those exhibited in autism spectrum disorders (ASDs). The unique genetic background of the BTBR strain is thought to underlie its lack of reciprocal social interactions, elevated repetitive self-directed grooming, and restricted exploratory behaviors. In order to clarify the existence, range, and mechanisms of abnormal repetitive behaviors within BTBR mice, we performed detailed analyses of the microstructure of self-grooming patterns and noted increased overall grooming, higher percentages of

Age-related differences in the acoustic characteristics of male leopard seals, Hydrurga leptonyx.

During the breeding season, the underwater vocalizations and calling rates of adult male leopard seals are highly stereotyped. In contrast, sub-adult males have more variable acoustic behavior. Although adult males produce only five stereotyped broadcast calls as part of their long-range underwater breeding displays the sub-adults have a greater repertoire including the adult-like broadcast calls, as well as variants of these. Whether this extended repertoire has a social function is unknown due to the paucity of behavioral data for this species. The broadcast calls of the sub-adults are less

Valproate modulates the expression of methylphenidate (ritalin) sensitization.

Repeated administration of amphetamine, cocaine, and methylphenidate (MPD) has been reported to elicit behavioral sensitization to their locomotor and stereotypic effects in rodents. GABAergic drugs have been shown to inhibit behavioral effects of stimulants. The objective of the present study was to determine whether single or multiple administration of sodium valproate, a GABA agonist, would prevent the expression of sensitization to the locomotor effect of MPD once it has developed. Twenty-eight male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomized into three treatment groups: a control group received o

Mazindol: anorectic and behavioral effects in female rats.

The anorectic and behavioral effects of mazindol (2.5, 5 and 10 mg/kg) were determined. The experiments comprized acute and chronic administration to female rats, and the effects were compared with those produced by 2.5 mg/kg of methamphetamine. The following evaluation parameters were considered: food intake, body weight, motor activity, and stereotyped behavior. Acute administration of the three doses of mazindol, as well as of the methamphetamine dose, decreased food intake. Administered chronically to female rats, mazindol (5 and 10 mg/kg) and methamphetamine induced loss of body weight du

Bromocriptine enhances the behavioural effects of apomorphine and dopamine after systemic or intracerebral injection in rats.

The ergot alkaloid bromocriptine, given intraperitoneally produced dose-dependent, long-lasting stereotyped behaviour in rats which was partly antagonised by the injection of trifluoperazine into the caudate nucleus. The stereotyped behaviour produced by apomorphine (s.c.) in both naïve and catecholamine-depleted rats was significantly enhanced by prior treatment with bromocriptine (i.p.). The bilateral application of bromocriptine (2.5-40 micrograms/side in either 0.5% tartaric acid or 50% propylene glycol aqueous vehicles) to the nucleus accumbens (NAC) of rats had no effect on locomotion ov

[Limited versus Extended Lateral Approach for Osteosynthesis of Calcaneal Fractures - Comparison of Temporal and Dynamic Parameters of the Gait Cycle].

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY Currently, operative treatment is preferred in dislocated calcaneal fractures. Most frequently used is the extended lateral approach, the disadvantage of which is the risk of early complications. Therefore, less invasive operative techniques are sought that would reduce the risk of such complications. The presented study aimed to compare the two different surgical approaches with respect to the restoration of gait stereotype using the objective pedobarography. We assume that the limited operative approach in osteosynthesis of intra-articular calcaneal fractures results in

Embryonic exposure to environmental factors drives transmitter switching in the neonatal mouse cortex causing autistic-like adult behavior.

Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) can be caused by environmental factors. These factors act early in the development of the nervous system and induce stereotyped repetitive behaviors and diminished social interactions, among other outcomes. Little is known about how these behaviors are produced. In pregnant women, delivery of valproic acid (VPA) (to control seizure activity or stabilize mood) or immune activation by a virus increases the incidence of ASD in offspring. We found that either VPA or Poly Inosine:Cytosine (which mimics a viral infection), administered at mouse embryonic day 12.5, ind

Hormonal acceleration of song development illuminates motor control mechanism in canaries.

In songbirds, the ontogeny of singing behavior shows strong parallels with human speech learning. As in humans, development of learned vocal behavior requires exposure to an acoustic model of species-typical vocalizations, and, subsequently, a sensorimotor practice period after which the vocalization is produced in a stereotyped manner. This requires mastering motor instructions driving the vocal organ and the respiratory system. Recently, it was shown that, in the case of canaries (Serinus canaria), the diverse syllables, constituting the song, are generated with air sac pressure patterns wit

Antiparkinsonian effects of BAM-1110, a novel ergoline derivative, in MPTP-treated cynomolgus monkeys.

BAM-1110 [(5R,8R,10R)-6-methyl-8-(1,2,4-triazol-l-ylmethyl) ergoline maleate] is a newly synthesized dopamine agonist that produces little anorexic side effects (nausea and vomiting). The current study examines the effects of BAM-1110 on parkinsonian symptoms in 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP)-treated monkeys, an animal model of Parkinson's disease. First, a significant antiparkinsonian effect of apomorphine hydrochloride (0.3 mg/kg given subcutaneously) was confirmed in these animals. BAM-1110 (0.1, 0.3, and 1 mg/kg subcutaneously) relieved parkinsonian symptoms in a dose-

The stress of not being able to perform dustbathing in laying hens.

The stress of not being able to perform dustbathing was studied in small groups of laying hens. The birds were reared and kept for 2.5 years in cages with either sand ("sand birds") or wire floors ("wire birds"), and subsequently deprived of sand (sand birds) or given access to sand (wire birds). Before this change, wire birds had a higher incidence of unilateral wing/leg stretching and stereotypic pecking compared to sand birds; however, there was no difference in corticosterone concentrations. Deprivation of sand in the sand birds resulted in a total absence of dustbathing and in a significa
