Fifty-six patients with psoriatic arthropathy have been reviewed to asses the extent and severity of their hand involvement. The hand was affected in 84% of cases. Although the distal interphalangeal joints are said to be classically affected, we found the proximal interphalangeal and metacarpophalangeal to be more frequently involved. Many other findings often associated with rheumatoid arthritis (e.g. boutonniere and swan-neck deformities, or tenosynovitis) can be seen in psoriatic arthropathy.

INTRODUCTION: Given the current increase in the incidence of Neisseria gonorrhoeae infection, a rise in disseminated forms of the disease ma … entation (60%), followed by polyarthritis, predominantly affecting the wrist or knee. Arthralgia or tenosynovitis at other sites, particularly the wrist, was common. Microbiological identification was performed by conventional culture (12/14) or PCR (7/7). Repeated ultrasound-guided drainage or surgical washout was required in 30% of cases. The mean duration of …

Objective The aim of this study is to examine whether the length of the proximal diaphyseal screws of volar locking plates used in distal ra … s in our study was 17 (14-26) months. The median age of the patients was 51 (44-58) years. Extensor tenosynovitis was detected in 22 patients due to proximal screw length. Proximal screw prominence over 1.2 mm was found to be statistically significant for extensor synovitis (p<0.05). Range of motion, radiological measurements, grip strength, QDASH, and other de …

Avian reoviruses (ARVs) represent a significant economic burden on the poultry industry due to their widespread prevalence and potential pathogenicity. These viruses, capable of infecting a diverse range of avian species, can lead to a variety of clinical manifestations, most notably tenosynovitis/arthritis. While many ARV strains are asymptomatic, pathogenic variants can cause severe inflammation and tissue damage in organs such as the tendons, heart, and liver. In broilers and turkeys, ARVs can induce severe arthritis/tenosynovitis, characterized by swollen hock joints and lesions in the gas…

INTRODUCTION: In the dysfunction of large muscles of the leg, tendon transfer surgery is found to be very helpful in restoring the normal fu … noted. The histological findings showed infiltration of lymphocytes in the tendon sheath indicating tenosynovitis and tendinitis. This could be attributed to the compression of the tendons. A few tendons were also stretched due to the skeletal framework of the foot in pes cavus. The bones along the medial longitudinal arch in pes cavus feet could tend to develo …

Many smartphone users experience pain in the thumb/wrist. This pain can be due to certain types of hand injuries as well as inflammation of the extensor pollicis brevis and the abductor pollicis longus tendon sheaths, known as De Quervain tenosynovitis. The objective of this study was to evaluate the association between smartphone addiction and wrist/thumb pain and to determine the severity of the pain, as well as to calculate the prevalence of De Quervain tenosynovitis among medical students at King Abdulaziz University (KAU) in Jeddah.A total of 387 medical students were enrolled. The smartp…

Sacroiliitis is an indispensable condition for the diagnosis of ankylosing spondylitis according to the present criteria and is usually diag … festation of seronegative spondylarthropathies. In the past it was thought to be due to concomitant tenosynovitis and arthritis. Recently, however, we have demonstrated with US and MRI that the 'sausage-like' appearance is due to the flexor tenosynovitis and that joint capsule distension is not indispensable.

Musculoskeletal ultrasonography (MSUS) is a useful imaging technique in the diagnosis of various soft tissue pathologies. High-frequency linear array transducers provide excellent resolution of soft tissue pathology. Pathological changes in subcutaneous tissue, including soft tissue tumours, abscesses, tenosynovitis, ligamentous and tendinous abnormalities, and peripheral nerve lesions, including carpal tunnel syndrome, can be identified. This review addresses the role of US in diagnosing regional pain syndrome, ligament lesions and nerve lesions.

Remitting seronegative symmetrical synovitis with pitting edema (RS3PE) is a rare clinical entity characterized by symmetrical tenosynovitis of both hands and ankles with pitting edema, negative rheumatoid factor (RF), absence of radiographic erosions, and excellent response to low-dose steroids. It is classically associated with elderly patients but may occur in younger patients, with only one case reported in the pediatric age. We report a case of RS3PE diagnosed in a pediatric patient.

Musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSUS) is a valuable tool that is used in outpatient clinics or at the bedside to assess multiple joint sites, including small joints. It provides detailed images of structures commonly observed in rheumatoid arthritis (RA), such as synovitis, tenosynovitis, bone erosions, cartilage damage, and synovial fluid accumulation. MSUS is frequently used in the management of RA and provides more objective information for an early diagnosis and disease activity assessment through imaging findings.

Trigger finger (TF), also known as stenosing tenosynovitis, is a rather common condition that causes entrapment of the flexor tendon at the site of the annular pulley. The accepted first-line treatment for TF is injection of long-acting corticosteroid in the involved flexor tendon sheath. This treatment is characterized by a high success rate and a low level of reported adverse effects in the literature. We report a case of subcutaneous atrophy after steroid injection in the treatment of TF.

Calcific myonecrosis is a late complication of a previous trauma which presents as a calcified fusiforme mass on an x-ray film. It is affecting mostly the anterior compartment of the lower leg. 43 cases have been reported in the literature and are reviewed. The current authors report a case of calcific myonecrosis with calcific tenosynovitis of the tibialis anterior muscle. Precipitated hydroxyapatite crystals were found by ultrasound-guided aspiration, the lesion was then treated by injection of corticosteroids and an anesthetic.

Peroneal tendon pathology is a common entity but is infrequently reported in the literature. The lesion may be due to partial tears, complete ruptures, subluxation, tenosynovitis, a fractured os peroneum, or damage to the peroneal retinacula. Chronic lateral ankle instability and excessive subtalar and ankle varus rotation may cause damage to the peroneal tendons and their associated structures. This article reviews the pathophysiology, diagnostic imaging, and current surgical techniques for the repair of peroneal tendons.

The pi plate (Synthes Ltd, Paoli, PA) was designed to fit the unique contour of the dorsal aspect of the distal radius. Complications of pi plate fixation of the dorsal distal radius have been previously reported to include both extensor tenosynovitis and delayed extensor tendon rupture. We report a case of rupture of the flexor pollicis longus tendon associated with inappropriate placement of the pi plate on the volar surface of the distal radius.

A trigger finger is not always caused by a stenosing tenosynovitis, but may rarely be due to an internal derangement of the metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joint. Several different mechanisms may be responsible for this intrinsic joint locking. A patient is described with intermittent locking of an index MCP joint due to an osteophyte tethering the radial accessory collateral ligament. Removal of the osteophyte solved the problem. Awareness of this condition may prevent unnecessary exploration of the proximal pulley and tendon sheath.
