BACKGROUND: Few cases describing patients with a right aortic arch (RAA) or double aortic arch (DAA) and esophageal cancer (EC) have been reported.
METHODS: We analyzed RAA and DAA cases treated with esophagectomy in our center's database and reported in English-language studies until April 1, 2023. Our study assessed the malformation characteristics and surgical details of EC patients with RAA and DAA.

We report a case of secondary spontaneous pneumothorax in which the causative bulla was successfully managed by thoracoscopic surgery. A 64-year-old male was admitted presenting with a right pneumothorax. Chest computed tomography revealed a bulla located in the azygoesophageal recess. Thoracoscopic surgery confirmed an unusual bulla extending along the thoracic spine with a fistula at the tip. We describe the intriguing features of this unique bulla and speculate on its aetiology for the first time.

In this report, we present a case specifying the availability of uniportal thoracoscopic resection of a total rib safely without the need for conventional thoracotomy. The favorable outcome of this case suggests that the uniportal thoracoscopic technique described here is a safe and successful approach for resection of costal lesions with good cosmetic results. To our knowledge, this is the first case reporting the entire rib resection via uniportal thoracoscopic approach.

A 75-years-old woman, who had undergone a total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy for ovarian granulosa cell tumor( OGCT) 6 years ago, was admitted to our hospital to treat a mass on the right diaphragm detected by computed tomography. The mass was resected successfully by video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery and pathological diagnosis of the tumor was a metastatic OGCT of the diaphragm. To our knowledge, this is the 3rd case report of metastatic OGCT of the diaphragm.

Intrathoracic extramedullary hematopoiesis is a rare condition accompanying chronic hematologic disease. We present a case of chronic gastric ulcer in which a posterior mediastinal mass was diagnosed as extramedullary hematopoiesis. We underwent video-assisted thoracoscopic resection safely and successfully. This procedure is relevant and safety procedure for differential diagnosis of patients who have chronic anemia with asymptomatic intrathoracic tumors.

Patients with intractable pneumothorax often have complex backgrounds, such as extensive pleural adhesions throughout the thoracic cavity, making treatment challenging. Therefore, it is important to tailor treatment options to each patient on the basis of their individual background. We report an alternative surgical technique for the treatment of intractable pneumothorax: plugging the cicatricial tunnel (intrathoracic adhesion membrane structure) with polyglycolic acid sheets by video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery using local anesthesia.

Here, we report the rare case of a 13-year-old girl with a congenital diaphragmatic hernia (also known as Bochdalek hernia), which was revealed to be an extralobar pulmonary sequestration that was treated using laparoscopic and video-assisted thoracic surgery sequestrectomy and repair of the diaphragm defect after detection of a supradiaphragmatic mass connected with the retroperitoneum. The patient showed no postoperative complications at a 1-month follow-up examination.

We present a case of a 58 year-old woman with primary chylopericardium associated with chylothorax. Chylopericardium is a condition in which chylous fluid containing a high concentration of triglycerides accumulates in the pericardial cavity, and it can form for many different reasons. 3D computed tomography with lymphography precisely depicted the specific location of the lymphatic leak in this patient, which was successfully repaired using targeted video assisted thoracic surgery (VATS).

Pulmonary sequestration is a rare developmental abnormality where pulmonary tissue lacks normal connections to the tracheobronchial tree, in addition to its having an anomalous systemic blood supply. Lobectomy via open thoracotomy has long been the procedure of choice for the resection of pulmonary sequestration. We present three cases of thoracoscopic lobectomies performed using video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS). Transection of the associated aberrant artery was performed using only a single staple.
