OBJECTIVE: To determine which severe maternal morbidity indicators identify the most in-hospital mortality during delivery hospitalization by delivery mode.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We obtained data from the 1993-2015 Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project's National Inpatient Sample. Separate analyses were conducted for cesarean and vaginal deliveries. We ranked 22 severe maternal morbidity indicators by their overall population-attributable fraction of in-hospital mortality.

Tuberculosis of the uterine cervix is an uncommon disease. Two cases of unsuspected cervical tuberculosis are reported. In Case 1, the patient presented with primary infertility. In Case 2, the patient had procidentia with decubitus ulcer and purulent vaginal discharge. In both the cases, the patients had secondary amenorrhoea. The differential diagnoses and role of other diagnostic aids are discussed.

Nylon cable bands used as ligatures caused postsurgical complications in 5 ovariohysterectomized bitches. Clinical signs included fever, stiffness, strangury, draining fistulae, vaginal discharge, and tenesmus. Most signs first appeared several years after surgery, and all signs were resolved after removal of the bands. On the basis of our experience, we suggest that nylon cable bands not be used for ovariohysterectomy ligations.

Pubic osteomyelitis is a rare and often late-onset complication of radiation therapy and surgery for vulvar and vaginal carcinoma. It typically presents with vulvar pain, fever, vaginal discharge and/or gait disorders. Pubic osteomyelitis is often accompanied by fistulas or wound dehiscence in the pelvic area. BACKGROUND: Primary small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the urinary tract is a very rare cancer, accounting for fewer than 0.5% of urinary tract tumors. These are aggressive neoplasms with high rates of metastases. Urethral diverticula can be found in up to 6% of women.
CASE: A 31-year-old woman presented with a clear vaginal discharge and an anterior vaginal wall mass that was thought to be a recurrent cyst. After surgical dissection, she was noted to have a urethral diverticulum with a solid nodule at the base. Final pathology showed a high-grade small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma.

A case of prolonged retention of fragments of fetal bones is reported in a 47-year-old woman. The pieces of bone, retained in utero for 8 years after an elective abortion, were unexpectedly discovered after total hysterectomy with adnexectomy performed for bilateral pyosalpinx, persistent vaginal discharge and severe pelvic pain.
