An atypical case of bilateral pulmonary hydatid cyst with endo-rupture managed with two-stages uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery in Palestine: case report.

INTRODUCTION: Echinococcosis is a helminthic infection caused by cestodes of the genus Echinococcus (e.g., E. granulosus, E. multilocularis). Infection is typically acquired by accidental ingestion of Echinococcus eggs, which are shed in the feces of infected dogs. Infection results in cystic lesions in the liver (75% of cases), lungs (15% of cases) and, rarely, other organs. CASE PRESENTATION: We report here a case of a bilateral pulmonary hydatid cyst in a 19-year-old female with endo-rupture of the cyst in the right upper lobe. The patient presented with a history of longstanding dry cough

Tension Pneumothorax Requiring Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery With Multimodal Pleurodesis: An Unexpected Ramification of a Ground Level Fall Without Significant Blunt or Penetrating Injury.

Tension pneumothorax is characterised by progressive air accumulation in the pleural space leading to increasing intrathoracic pressure and haemodynamic instability. Pneumothorax is generally observed following blunt or penetrating trauma, though spontaneous pneumothorax can also occur in patients with risk factors. This case highlights the potential for severe complications in an otherwise healthy patient with tension pneumothorax resulting from a ground-level fall onto an absorbent soft surface with mild indirect thoracic trauma. Initial respiratory status coupled with asthma history was wor

Right lung isolation in the prone position using an EZ-Blocker through an armoured endotracheal tube for combined spine and video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery.

Surgical correction is the definitive treatment for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS), but 25% of cases may experience screw migration, risking injury to thoracic structures. Video assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) can visualise malpositioned screws and resolve injury. This report presents a case of an AIS patient who underwent prone VATS for simultaneous screw correction after posterior spinal fusion. While traditional VATS uses a double lumen tube (DLT) in the lateral decubitus position, DLTs are less ideal for prone surgery. Bronchial blockers (BB), like the EZ-Blocker (Teleflex, Wa

Computed tomography-based thymoma-to-cranial intrathoracic volume ratio predicts the feasibility of video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery in a small dog: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Canine thymoma (CT) is the most common neoplastic disease of the cranial intrathoracic cavity. Reports of video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery-thymectomy (VATS-T) in dogs are increasing, but the surgical indication criteria remain unclear. This report highlights the value of a new criterion called the thymoma volume to cranial intrathoracic volume ratio (T/CI ratio) for evaluating the feasibility of VATS-T. CASE DESCRIPTION: A neutered 9-year-old Papillon weighing 3.5 kg had a mass of approximately 20 mm in the cranial intrathoracic cavity. The dog was in good general condition an

High-resolution computed tomography features and CT-guided microcoil localization of subcentimeter pulmonary ground-glass opacities: radiological processing prior to video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery.

BACKGROUND: With the rapid development of high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT), low-dose CT scanning and video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS), smaller pulmonary nodules can be detected. Subcentimeter ground-glass opacities (GGOs) are extremely difficult to diagnose and accurately locate during VATS and in surgically resected specimens. METHODS: From September 2013 to September 2017, 42 subcentimeter GGO lesions (≤1 cm) in 31 patients who underwent CT-guided microcoil insertion followed by VATS resection were included. All HRCT images were assessed by two experienced radiologists,

A novel and simple Inflation-deflation method with inflated targeted segments for confirming the intersegmental border under video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery: a technical note.

With the increase in the diagnosis rate of small pulmonary nodules, the segmentectomy has been increasingly used in clinical practice worldwide. However, for the segmentectomy, the confirmation of intersegmental plane has always puzzled many thoracic surgeons. This paper described a new method, named artery-based Inflation-deflation method, used to confirm the intersegmental border under video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery. After only dividing the targeted segment artery and preserving the targeted segmental veins and bronchi, the intersegmental plane was successfully generated by this novel

The safety and feasibility of non-intubated versus intubated video-assisted thoracic surgery in NSCLC patients after neoadjuvant therapy: a propensity score matching study.

BACKGROUND: Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide, with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) accounting for over 85% of cases. Surgical resection is the main treatment for early-stage NSCLC, and neoadjuvant therapy is widely used for locally advanced or high-risk patients to improve resectability and survival. Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) has become the standard minimally invasive approach. With the development of enhanced recovery after surgery protocols, non-intubated VATS (NI-VATS) has shown advantages in reducing airway injury, postoperative compli
