INTRODUCTION: Recurrent lower back pain (rLBP) and neuromuscular fatigue are independently thought to increase the risk of lower extremity (LE) injury. Volitional preemptive abdominal contraction (VPAC) is thought to improve lumbar spine and pelvis control in individuals with rLBP. The effects of VPAC on fatigued landing performance in individuals with rLBP are unknown.

BACKGROUND: An abdominal pseudohernia is a rare clinical entity that consists of an abnormal bulging of the abdominal wall that can resemble a true hernia but does not have an associated underlying fascial or muscle defect. Abdominal pseudohernia is believed to result from denervation of the abdominal muscles in cases of herpes zoster infection, diabetes mellitus, lower thoracic or upper lumbar disc herniation, surgical injuries, and rib fracture. Traumatic lumbar hernias are rare, with little surgical literature describing their management. In this we report about a 41-year-old patient admitted to University Hospital Southampton following a high velocity road traffic collision, of estimated speed 140 mph. He suffered multiple bony injuries, and a traumatic right inferior lumbar hernia containing the ascending colon. The hernia was surgically repaired extra-peritoneally with mesh and abdominal wall muscles approximated and sutured.

Eagle-Barrett Syndrome (EBS) is a rare congenital condition characterized by the triad of absent or defective abdominal wall muscles, urinary tract abnormalities, and bilateral cryptorchidism. Ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO) is seldom reported in these patients, despite it being a common cause of childhood obstructive uropathy. We present the case of a patient with EBS who was subsequently identified as having symptomatic UPJO that was successfully treated with robotic pyeloplasty.

Fibromatoses are uncommon, locally aggressive lesions that may involve the structures of the head and neck. They are most commonly found in and along the fascial planes of the neck muscles but can involve other structures, including the oral cavity, nose, nasopharynx or paranasal sinuses. An unusual case of an extra-abdominal desmoid tumor is presented and a review of the anatomical, clinical and pathological features of these tumors is discussed.

A case report of leiomyosarcoma of the transverse colon was presented in view of its rarity of the occurrence. An extra-colonic, mobile abdominal mass showing a rapid growth with mild tenderness was the principal preoperative findings in the patient. The occurrence of malignant tumors in smooth muscles of the colon, not including the rectum, is extremely rare. In review of the references, about thirty cases have been previously reported.
