Critical tracheal stenosis from adenoid cystic carcinoma during pregnancy: Case report.

Malignancy during pregnancy complicates approximately 0.1% of patients. Primary tumors of the trachea comprise only 0.2% of respiratory system malignancies. Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is an adenocarcinoma that can originate from the seromucinous submucosal glands of the trachea and cause airway obstruction. Here we present the collaborative operative management of a Cesarean section delivery for a patient with critical airway obstruction secondary to ACC.

CXCR5 induces perineural invasion of salivary adenoid cystic carcinoma by inhibiting microRNA-187.

CXCR5 played critical roles in tumorigenesis and metastasis. Nevertheless, little was known about the involvement of CXCR5 in perineural invasion (PNI) of salivary adenoid cystic carcinoma (SACC). Here, we confirmed upregulation of CXCR5 in SACC specimens and cells and identified that CXCR5 exhibited a significant positive correlation with PNI. Functionally, knockdown of CXCR5 suppressed SACC cells migration, invasion and PNI ability, whereas CXCR5 overexpression displayed the opposite effects. Moreover, CXCR5 downregulated microRNA (miR)-187, which could competitively sponge S100A4. The PNI-i

Salivary Microbiome in Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma Detected by 16S rRNA Sequencing and Shotgun Metagenomics.

Microorganisms are confirmed to be closely related to the occurrence and development of cancers in human beings. However, there has been no published report detailing relationships between the oral microbiota and salivary adenoid cystic carcinoma (SACC). In this study, unstimulated saliva was collected from 13 SACC patients and 10 healthy controls. The microbial diversities, compositions and functions were comprehensively analyzed after 16S rRNA sequencing and whole-genome shotgun metagenomic sequencing. The alpha diversity showed no significant difference between SACC patients and healthy con

Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma Developed from the Parotid Gland to the Ear Lobe of a Young Woman.

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is a relatively rare malignant tumor. It is more common in women than in men and typically develops in the lacrimal, salivary, and breast glands. ACC of the external auditory canal (EAC) is exceedingly rare, and its invasion into the ear lobe is even more unusual. In this report, we present a case of ACC that presented as a mass on the surface of the ear lobe in a 28-year-old woman and was initially diagnosed as infected atheroma. For wide resection of the tumor, half of the entire auricula was resected and superficial parotidectomy was performed. After confirmin

Exceptional Renal Metastasis from Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma of the Nasal Cavity and Literature Review.

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is a rare malignant cancer that arises from secretory glands. Slow growth, perineural invasion, and late recurrences are the main characteristics of ACC. Only few cases of kidney metastases from ACC have been reported in the literature. We report here the case of a 66-year-old female patient who presented with bilateral renal metastases from ACC of the nasal cavity, detected 14 years after treatment of primary tumor and 6 years after metastasectomy of lung metastases. Histological examination confirmed diagnosis and the patient was treated with systemic chemother

[Survival Analysis of 76 Cases of Head and Neck Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma
with Lung Metastasis].

BACKGROUND: Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) of the head and neck often develops lung metastasis. At present, there are not many research reports on ACC lung metastasis, little is known about its exact clinical features and treatment results, and there is no consensus on the best treatment strategy. This study explored the effective treatment strategies, clinical outcomes and long-term prognosis of head and neck ACC lung metastases. METHODS: The clinical and follow-up data of 76 patients with head and neck ACC lung metastases were retrospectively analyzed. According to the initial treatment of

Primary Pituitary Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma: A Rare Salivary Gland-Like Tumor in the Sella.

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is a tumor of the exocrine glands that originates primarily from the minor and major salivary glands, nasopharynx, and lacrimal glands. ACC grows slowly but is locally aggressive and prone to recurrence. It is uncommon for ACCs to develop in the pituitary gland as a primary tumor. We present a case of primary pituitary ACC extending to the sphenoid sinus resembling an invasive adenoma in a 71-year-old woman with a history of nasal epistaxis. We reviewed other reported cases of pituitary ACCs with retrospective validation of whether the tumor was primary or not. T

Breast adenoid cystic carcinoma arising in microglandular adenosis: A case report and review of literature.

BACKGROUND: Breast adenoid cystic carcinoma (AdCC) is a rare invasive carcinoma composed of epithelial and myoepithelial cells. Microglandular adenosis (MGA) is a rare benign proliferative lesion consisting of small, uniform, and round glands formed by a single layer of epithelial cells and basement membrane without a myoepithelial cell layer. MGA may progress to atypical MGA and carcinoma arising in MGA. Among various invasive carcinomas from MGA, AdCC has been rarely reported. Here, we report a case of AdCC arising in MGA. CASE SUMMARY: A 59-year-old woman was diagnosed with a newly develop

MicroRNA‑103a‑3p promotes metastasis by targeting TPD52 in salivary adenoid cystic carcinoma.

Salivary adenoid cystic carcinoma (SACC) exhibits slow continuous growth, frequent local recurrences and a high incidence of blood metastasis, with advanced lung metastasis frequently occurring and being among the primary causes of mortality. MicroRNAs (miR) serve a significant role in the initiation and development of cancer and may be tumour‑specific molecular targets. However, the role of miR‑103a‑3p in SACC remains largely unknown. In the present study, the expression levels of miR‑103a‑3p and tumour protein D52 (TPD52) were detected by reverse transcription‑quantitative PCR. In addition,

Combined surgery and radiotherapy as curative treatment for tracheal adenoid cystic carcinoma: a case report.

BackgroundAdenoid cystic carcinoma of the trachea is a rare tumor, characterized by slow growth and low rate of local and distant metastasis. When achievable, complete surgical resection represents the optimal treatment approach, with the highest results in terms of overall survival. Radiation therapy is a reasonable alternative in cases of inoperable disease.Case presentationWe report a case of an 82-year-old white man affected by primary adenoid cystic carcinoma of the trachea, treated with debulking surgery and radiotherapy on the residual disease. A three-dimensional conformal radiation th
