Subglottic hemangioma associated with cutaneous and cerebellar hemangiomas detected by MRI: report of one case.

Subglottic hemangioma (SGH) is a benign neoplasm that may cause severe and life-threatening respiratory obstruction in infants. However, patients usually present with inspiratory stridor in the first few months of life and may be mistakenly diagnosed as recurrent or persistent croup. Definitive diagnosis is made by image studies, endoscopic examination and biopsy or all. We report a 2-month-old female infant of SGH with initial clinical manifestations of dyspnea and inspiratory stridor co-existing with cutaneous and cerebellar hemangiomas. Clinicians must be alert the possibility of SGH when a

[Prevalence, etiology and clinical findings of Cushing's syndrome].

Endogenous Cushing's syndrome is a very rare entity, with an incidence of 2-4 cases per million inhabitants per year. Cases caused by ectopic ACTH secretion are under-diagnosed. Cushing's disease is the most frequent cause of endogenous Cushing's syndrome, which is 5 or 6 times more frequent than adrenal Cushing's syndrome, with an incidence of between 1.2 and 2.4 cases per million inhabitants per year. Cushing's disease is 3-8 times higher in women than in men. The frequency of adrenal tumors is 3 times higher in women, while that of Cushing's syndrome due to adrenal tumors is 3-5 times highe

5th International ACC Symposium: Surgical Considerations in the Treatment of Adrenocortical Carcinoma: 5th International ACC Symposium Session: Who, When and What Combination?

Significant progress has been made in the understanding of how surgical technique impacts outcome in patients with adrenal cancer. Current and future areas of investigation center on expanding the role of surgery in patients with locally recurrent or metastatic disease, use of neoadjuvant therapy as a bridge to surgery, the impact of formal lymphadenectomy on survival, and improved diagnosis, prognosis, and selection of patients for surgery and other treatments using morphomic analysis.

First Case Report of a Sporadic Adrenocortical Carcinoma With Gastric Metastasis and a Synchronous Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor of the Stomach.

Adrenocortical carcinoma is a rare tumor with high aggresivity that can associate systemic metastases. A 71-year-old man was hospitalized for gastric cancer. The abdominal computed tomography also revealed a tumor above the right kidney. Total gastrectomy and right adrenalectomy were performed. The encapsulated tumor of the adrenal gland weighed 560 grams and presented diffuse tumor architecture under microscope, with capsular, sinusoidal, and vascular invasion. The large tumor cells had a polygonal shape, with slight basophilic, eosinophilic, or vacuolated cytoplasm, pleomorphic nuclei, and a

Sarcomatoid carcinoma of the adrenal gland: A case report and review of literature.

Reports about adrenocortical carcinomas (AC) mixed with sarcomatous areas are very rare. The terminology and pathogenesis of such biphasic tumors remain controversial. Herein, we report a case of sarcomatoid carcinoma of the adrenal gland in a 75-year-old woman who presented with left abdominal pain of one month's standing. The results of abdominal ultrasonography and computed tomography (CT) showed the presence of a large heterogeneous adrenal mass. A left adrenalectomy and complete splenectomy were performed. Histologically, the neoplasm showed areas of adrenocortical carcinoma and areas of

[Disseminated adrenocortical carcinoma: case report].

Adrenocortical carcinoma is a rare neoplasm occurring with a frequency of 1-2 cases per million. It is characterized by significant malignancy with mean survival of about 28 months, and in the presence of documented metastases survival is shorter up to 8 months. This type of a tumor is slightly more frequent in women (58.6%) than in men (41.4%). Etiology of adrenocortical carcinoma is still unclear, but a role of genetic and environmental factors has been largely considered. Most of the carcinomas (60%) are functional and usually the first manifestation is Cushing's syndrome with virilization.

Development of mantle cell lymphoma in a patient with adrenocortical carcinoma and an 18-year survival after complete removal of the primary cancer and resection of local recurrences.

The case of a patient with a non-functional and poorly-differentiated adrenocortical carcinoma, who had an unexpected long-term survival after a right adrenalectomy and subsequent removal of 2 local recurrences, is reported. However, fifteen years after the complete resection of the primary neoplasm, the patient first developed an autoimmune thrombocytopenic purpura and later a mantle cell lymphoma located in the mediastinal lymph nodes. This case confirms the possible growth of a second tumour in patients with adrenocortical carcinomas, especially if presenting a long survival after resection

Dual Energy-Derived Metrics for Differentiating Adrenal Adenomas From Nonadenomas on Single-Phase Contrast-Enhanced CT.

BACKGROUND. Adrenal masses are often indeterminate on single-phase postcontrast CT. Dual-energy CT (DECT) with three-material decomposition algorithms may aid characterization. OBJECTIVE. The purpose of this study was to compare the diagnostic performance of metrics derived from portal venous phase DECT, including virtual noncontrast (VNC) attenuation, fat fraction, iodine density, and relative enhancement ratio, for characterizing adrenal masses. METHODS. This retrospective study included 128 patients (82 women, 46 men; mean age, 64.6 ± 12.7 [SD] years) who between January 2016 and December 2

Three Dimensional Cell Culturing for Modeling Adrenal and Pituitary Tumors.

In vitro monolayer conditions are not able to reproduce the complexity of solid tumors, still, there is scarce information about the 3D cell culture models of endocrine tumor types. Therefore, our aim was to develop in vitro 3D tumor models by different methodologies for adrenocortical carcinoma (H295R), pituitary neuroendocrine tumor (RC-4B/C and GH3) and pheochromocytoma (PC-12). Various methodologies were tested. Cell biological assays (cell viability, proliferation and live cell ratio) and steroid hormone production by HPLC-MS/MS method were applied to monitor cellular well-being. Cells in

[Neurohormonal changes during the growth of metastatic Lewis carcinoma in C57Bl mice].

Functions of adrenal gland cortex, mediator system of brain and of sympathoadrenal system, including hormone formation in medullar layer of adrenal glands, were studied in mice of C57BL strain with growing metastatic Lewis carcinoma. The neurohormonal activity was distinctly inhibited under conditions of stress within the period of adaptation to the tumor development (I-14 days after the carcinoma inoculation) as well as in development of metastases (21 day of the tumor growth). Excessive stimulation of the systems studied as well as their exhaustion, might cause a distinct augmenting effect o

Long-term survival over 28 years of a patient with metastatic adrenal cortical carcinoma--case report.

Adrenal cortical carcinoma (ACC) is a rare and highly malignant tumour with up to 70% of the patients diagnosed at an advanced clinical stage, up to 40% presenting with metastases. Even after complete surgical excision, up to 80% of the patients show locoregional recurrence or metastases. We report a case of a 62-year-old woman with a non-functional ACC of the left adrenal gland (T2N0M0 classified as stage II). After the initial resection, 3 operations for metastasis of the contralateral adrenal gland and 4 operations for metastasis of the lungs were carried out, allowing survival for more tha

Deep learning approach for differentiating indeterminate adrenal masses using CT imaging.

PURPOSE: Distinguishing stage 1-2 adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) and large, lipid poor adrenal adenoma (LPAA) via imaging is challenging due to overlapping imaging characteristics. This study investigated the ability of deep learning to distinguish ACC and LPAA on single time-point CT images. METHODS: Retrospective cohort study from 1994 to 2022. Imaging studies of patients with adrenal masses who had available adequate CT studies and histology as the reference standard by method of adrenal biopsy and/or adrenalectomy were included as well as four patients with LPAA determined by stability or

Subtype-specific pattern of white blood cell differential in endogenous hypercortisolism.

OBJECTIVE: Endogenous hypercortisolism predisposes to impaired immune function and infections. To date, however, it is unknown whether there is a subtype-specific pattern in white blood cell (WBC) and WBC differential (WBCD) count. METHODS: A retrospective monocentric cohort study was carried out in patients with overt endogenous Cushing's syndrome (CS) or adrenal incidentalomas and autonomous cortisol secretion (ACS), with WBC/WBCD analysis at initial diagnosis and after biochemical remission. Cut-offs were obtained by receiver-operating characteristics analysis. RESULTS: In total, 253 pati

An Unusual Presentation of Adrenocortical Carcinoma (ACC): Panic Attacks and Psychosis.

BACKGROUND Adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) is a very rare disease, with an incidence of 1.02 per million population per year. The most commonly secreted hormone in ACC is cortisol, often presenting as a rapidly progressive Cushing syndrome (CS). We describe a case of ACC with an unusual presentation, mainly with psychiatric manifestations, including panic attacks and hallucinations. CASE REPORT A 52-year-old woman presented with episodes of acute anxiety, hallucinations, palpitations, hot flashes, gastrointestinal upset associated with paroxysmal hypertension, tachycardia, and flushing for 1 we
