Chromosomal abnormalities are an important cause of mental retardation. We studied the frequency of karyotype abnormalities in 74 mentally retarded patients selected from 306 patients referred to our clinic. Giemsa-banding was done on all cases. Food deprivation inhibits estrous behavior in several species of rodents, but little is known about the neurotransmitter systems mediating this phenomenon. We determined whether partial blockade of opioid receptors by continuous infusion of naltrexone and/or acute peripheral injection of cholecystokinin (CCK) administration would overcome the suppressive effects of food deprivation on estrous behavior in Syrian hamsters. Betel quid (BQ) chewing has been associated with an increased risk of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and oral submucous fibrosis (OSF). Piper betel inflorescence, which contains 15 mg/g safrole, is a unique ingredient of BQ in Taiwan. The intraocular penetration of levofloxacin was studied in albino and pigmented rabbits after oral administration of 14C-levofloxacin at a dose of 20 mg/kg. The distribution of angiotensin II binding sites has been mapped at segmental levels throughout the spinal cord of the sheep using in vitro autoradiographic methods.
