A nationwide survey of cases of congenital dilatation of the biliary duct was conducted to obtain the data on cases of congenital dilation of the biliary duct in Japan between 1972 and 1982. A total of 645 cases were surveyed. An anomalous arrangement of the pancreaticobiliary ductal system (AAPABIDS) was associated with congenital dilatation of the biliary duct in 90.2% of the cases examined extensively. 605 upper gastrointestinal endoscopies were performed at a student health centre on university students under the age of 35. Some abnormality, and sometimes more than one, was found in 291 (48.0%) patients. 93 (15.4%) had chronic superficial gastritis, 36 (5.9%) acute gastritis, three had atrophic gastritis, and two eosinophilic gastritis. 53 patients (8.7%) had an oesophageal abnormality. The experiment consists in intravenous infusion of 99mTc-Hepatobida, fractioned aspiration of the gastric juice by means of a tube and measurement of radioactivity in the aspirated liquid. In recent years, proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) have come under great scrutiny due to possible adverse, long-term side effects. At the same time, Barrett's esophagus, a premalignant condition in the esophagus, continues to be a disease whose course is thought to be improved by the use of PPIs. In a series of 565 morbidly obese patients having one of five gastric bariatric procedures done at North Carolina Memorial Hospital between May 1975 and December 1982, 55 patients had 58 complications requiring reoperation. These complications included a leak from the stomach or anastomosis, stomal obstruction, and subphrenic abscess. Weight loss after vertical banded gastroplasty appears to be comparable to that following gastric bypass with Roux-en-Y gastrojejunostomy. The complication rate of vertical banded gastroplasty is the lowest of the gastric obstructive operations we have done.

BACKGROUND: Occult pancreaticobiliary reflux (OPBR) has a significant correlation with diseases of the gallbladder and biliary system. This study examined the incidence of OPBR by age in patients with benign gallbladder diseases.
METHODS: We assessed 475 patients with benign gallbladder diseases who underwent surgery at Shanghai East Hospital from December 2020 to December 2021. BACKGROUND: The presence of bacteria in bile is an important factor in the formation of pigment gallstones. The bile of healthy people is sterile and bacteria in the biliary system come from endogenous infection from the gut. Yet, the route of bacterial translocation into the bile duct is still unclear. Theoretically, two routes exist: one is through the intestinal barrier and the other is by direct reflux from the sphincter of Oddi. This study was undertaken to explore the relationship between the effectiveness of intestinal barrier and the formation of pigment gallstones in hamsters.
