Impact of internet addiction and gaming disorder on body weight in children and adolescents: A systematic review.

AIM: Internet use and gaming have increased in daily life. Internet addiction has not been recognised in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition or 11th Revision of International Classification of Diseases despite gaming addiction having been listed since 2013. Previous studies have shown an association between internet use and weight gain or disordered eating patterns in the general population, however none have addressed this association in a paediatric population. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between internet addiction or gaming a

Implication of grip strength assessment for the management of body weight in disability prevention in older adults.

BACKGROUND: Although body mass index (BMI) and grip strength (GS) are both predictors of disability, their joint effect on predicting incident disability remains uncertain. We examined whether the effect of BMI on incident disability can be modulated by GS in community-dwelling older people in Japan. METHODS: A total of 1486 community-dwellers in Japan (731 men and 755 women, aged 65-82 years) who participated in the 2nd to 7th waves of the National Institute for Longevity Sciences-Longitudinal Study of Aging (NILS-LSA) project, were followed up to 20 years. Twelve subgroups were created acco

INFLUENCE OF PAPAVERINE AND COMMERCIAL DIETARY SUPPLEMENTS ON BLOOD GLUCOSE AND BODY WEIGHT IN OBESE DOGS.

Our experiments showed that papaverine inhibits sugar absorption in vivo as well as in vitro. Papaverine blocks the absorption of sugar both in healthy and diabetic animals. Oral administration of papaverine significantly reduced blood sugar level but after an hour blood sugar level showed tendency to come back to the initial levels that were characteristic for these diabetic dogs. Dietary supplement made of herbal remedies and papaverine has proven to be quite effective in reducing body weight in dogs. For a month, dogs with initial overweight lost on average more than 1 kg (10+%), that is a …

Apparent digestibility of energy and nutrients and efficiency of microbial phytase is influenced by body weight of pigs.

An experiment was conducted to test the hypothesis that regardless of pig body weight (BW), increasing dietary phytase results in increased phytate degradation and improved digestibility of minerals, amino acids (AA), and gross energy (GE). Eighteen pigs were equipped with a T-cannula in the distal ileum and allotted to a triplicated 6 × 3 Youden square design with six diets and three collection periods of 7 d, for a total of nine replicate pigs per diet. This design was repeated four times to simulate four production phases, and there was a 7-d resting period before each collection phase star…

Is mini-nutritional assessment a reliable tool in detecting malnutrition in elderly with body weight excess?

PURPOSE: The rising proportion of elderly population in high-income societies has resulted in increasing number of subjects with chronic disabling diseases and nutritional deficiency. Elderly's nutritional status is usually assessed through the mini-nutritional assessment (MNA®). However, its effectiveness may be influenced by weight excess or obesity. We tested the performance of MNA® questionnaire in subjects aged ≥ 65 years from Northern Sardinia, Italy, according to overweight/obesity, and we tried to identify the factors associated with malnutrition. METHODS: A modified version of MNA® (
