Hepatocellular carcinoma suppressor 1 (HCCS1) was discovered as a novel tumor suppressor gene. We recently observed that adenovirus-mediated gene transfer of HCCS1 leads to cytotoxicity to human hepatocarcinoma cells. From 1957 to 1992, 18 cases of primary mediastinal germ cell tumours were referred to the Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute (PMCI). Six were seminomas, six were mixed germ cell tumours, two were embryonal cell carcinomas, three were teratocarcinomas and one was labelled an 'anaplastic germ cell tumour'. Two of the 18 patients were female. For seminomas, surgical (and in one case chemotherapeutic) debulking, followed by radiotherapy produced the best results. This paper reports a histopathological and follow-up study of 54 cases of epithelial tumours of the lacrimal gland. The findings confirm the view that accurate histological diagnosis is a reliable guide to the prognosis of these tumours and, therefore, to their clinical management. Since a thorough histological examination is of such clinical importance, treatment of these particular neoplasms should not be based upon evidence obtained from frozen sections of biopsies taken during operation. Acquired localized hypertrichosis has rarely been reported. Here, we describe a patient with localized hypertrichosis of the pinnae that occurred 4 months after orchiectomy and chemotherapy for a testicular carcinoma. To our knowledge, this is the first case of an acquired hypertrichosis of the pinnae after cancer therapy. We propose that in our patient either hypogonadism or the hormonal imbalance caused by the cancer therapy led to the development of the hairy pinnae, perhaps alongside a genetic predisposition for hairy ears.

Carcinoma in situ (CIS) of the testis is considered to be a precursor of germ cell cancer. Diagnosis is made by the conventional biopsy technique. Only for patients at risk is a screening biopsy justifiable. This group includes patients with testicular cancer in whom the incidence of contralateral second germ cell tumors is increased. This paper analyzes 77 cases of ovarian tumor in children and adolescents treated in our hospital from Jul. 1952 to Aug. 1982. All were under 20 years and the youngest was 3 years old. The incidence was 6.0% of the total patients with ovarian tumor during the same period. Two hundred and fifty biopsy specimens from the contralateral testis in patients with unilateral germinal testicular cancer were analysed by light microscopy for carcinoma-in-situ changes.
