This report describes congenital coronary artery fistula of the right coronary artery draining into the left atrium in a young woman. The initial diagnosis of this rare anomaly was made noninvasively by echocardiography. Transesophageal echocardiography was vastly superior to transthoracic echocardiography in presenting the entire course of the fistula. The diagnosis was confirmed by coronary angiography. The fistula was successfully closed surgically.

This article provides an overview of treatment strategies that target communicative disorders exhibited by children exposed to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The myriad of communicative disorders presented by these children is discussed in relationship to the complex needs of culturally diverse families. Rehabilitation considerations, the impact of health status on treatment outcomes, and the need to work collaboratively with other health care professionals in meeting children's needs from a family-focused perspective are further discussed.

It has been proposed that excitotoxic damage by glutamatergic hyperactivity is responsible for neurodegeneration in Alzheimer's disease. Lamotrigine (LTG) inhibits presynaptic glutamate release and is considered to be effective in treatment of other neurodegenerative disorders by its cerebroprotective properties. We used LTG in 11 patients with the diagnosis of probable Alzheimer's disease. 300 mg/day administration of LTG improved word recognition, naming and depressed mood on Alzheimer Disease Assessment Scale (ADAS).
