Evaluating the Effectiveness of NORTH STAR: a Community-Based Framework to Reduce Adult Substance Misuse, Intimate Partner Violence, Child Abuse, Suicidality, and Cumulative Risk.

We evaluated the effectiveness of NORTH STAR, a community assessment, planning, and action framework to reduce the prevalence of several secretive adult problems (hazardous drinking, controlled prescription drug misuse, suicidality, and clinically significant intimate partner violence and child abuse [both emotional and physical]) as well as cumulative risk. One-third of US Air Force (AF) bases worldwide were randomly assigned to NORTH STAR (n = 12) or an assessment-and-feedback-only condition (n = 12). Two AF-wide, cross-sectional, anonymous, web-based surveys were conducted of randomly selec

Implementing wastewater surveillance for SARS-CoV-2 on a university campus: Lessons learned.

Wastewater surveillance, also known as wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE), has been successfully used to detect SARS-CoV-2 and other viruses in sewage in many locations in the United States and globally. This includes implementation of the surveillance on college and university campuses. A two-phase study was conducted during the 2020-2021 academic year to test the feasibility of a WBE system on campus and to supplement the clinical COVID-19 testing performed for the student, staff, and faculty body. The primary objective during the Fall 2020 semester was to monitor a large portion of the on-

Lessons learned from two multicentre randomised controlled trials undertaken in pharmacies in community settings: a retrospective project management analysis.

BACKGROUND: Community pharmacists are the most publicly accessible health professionals in high-income countries. There is increasing interest in conducting randomised controlled trials (RCT)-the benchmark of original evidence in the medical field-in community pharmacies. However, little evidence exists examining the challenges and opportunities of conducting RCTs in pharmacies, particularly with respect to project management. In this work, we aim to provide a narrative of lessons learned in conducting two RCTs in community pharmacies in two high-income countries. METHODS: We retrospectively

Health optimization of older people in prison.

This article examines the leadership challenges of prison healthcare, specifically focusing on the ageing inmate population. It highlights the distinct health burdens faced by this demographic, including higher disease prevalence and an accelerated ageing process. The concept of prison activities of daily living is central to addressing these challenges, emphasizing the need to tailor health assessments and care plans to the unique prisoner-environment interactions. This article advocates for inclusive person-centred care. It suggests that involving older prisoners in their care planning, alig

Discharge planning and resource utilization for minimizing readmissions in acute exacerbation of chronic heart failure: Insights from an observational study in a community hospital.

This cross-sectional study analyzed discharge disposition in 1,584 readmitted patients aged 65 or older with acute exacerbation of chronic heart failure (AECHF) in a large community hospital from April 2021 to April 2022. The study aimed to explore the relationship between age (65-74, 75-85, and 85 or older) and gender (male, female) with discharge disposition. Results revealed that 55.6 % were discharged for home self-care, 27.3 % with external home health support, and 17.1 % to skilled nursing facilities. Logistic regression showed no significant differences in discharge between age groups.

The Hajj is an annual religious mass gathering that takes place in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. The complexity of its system is multidimensional, with religious, political, cultural, security, economic, communication, operational, and logistic unique challenges. This year, yet another stampede tragedy that caused around a 1,000 deaths and severe injuries, capturing worldwide media attention and exacerbating existing political tensions across the Gulf coasts was faced. Planning is important but the planning process is more important, requiring systematic analysis based on accurate collected and target
