Sixty-one serum samples selected on the basis of reactivity in the complement fixation (CF) and latex agglutination (LA) test, were further examined for sensitivity and specificity by indirect haemagglutination (IHA), enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and defined antigen substrate spheres (DASS). We report on a 17-year-old patient with severe bronchiolitis due to Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection. Despite an early 10-day course of clari … s and CD68+ macrophages. The diagnosis of Mycoplasma pneumoniae bronchiolitis was based on repeated complement fixation tests, which turned strongly positive only at day 74 after onset of the disease. Pulmonary function improved slowly under long-term prednisone treatment.

We have evaluated the Histoplasma antibody response in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in nine patients with central nervous system histoplasmosis and 98 controls. Different methods of the preparation of haemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) antigen for complement-fixation (CF) test are described. The antigens were prepared from the organs of suckling white rats inoculated with the Western type of HRFS by precipitation with polyethylene glycol, by fluorocarbon treatment and or by sucrose-acetone extraction. The highest CF titre was obtained by acetone precipitation of 20% brain suspension in isotonic sucrose.
