BACKGROUND: The necessary margin of excision for cutaneous melanomas greater than 2 mm in thickness is controversial. At a median follow-up of 5 years, findings from our previously published randomised trial of narrow (1 cm) versus wide (3 cm) excision margins in patients with thick cutaneous melanomas showed that narrow margins were associated with an increased frequency of locoregional relapse, but no significant difference in overall survival was apparent. We now report a long-term survival analysis of that trial.

PURPOSE: To assess hydronephrosis of tubeless cutaneous ureterostomy using Tc-99m mercaptoacetyltriglycine (MAG3) diuretic renogram.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Cutaneous ureterostomy with a unilateral stomal creation was performed in 15 patients (27 renal units) with a minimum follow-up period of 6 months. Stomal obstruction was evaluated with Tc-99m MAG3 diuretic renography 3 months after the surgery. The data analyses were performed with half-times to tracer clearance (T1/2) after furosemide (0.5 mg/kg) administration.
RESULTS: T1/2 means were 7.27 +/- 7.11, 5.69 +/- 4.63, and 8.96 +/- 8.37 mi

CASE DESCRIPTION: A 9-month-old domestic shorthair cat was evaluated after being struck by a car.
CLINICAL FINDINGS: The cat had a fractured tibia and avulsion of the tail base. Motor and deep pain sensation were absent from the tail. The fractured tibia was repaired 2 days after the trauma. On the third day, the cat developed tachypnea, dyspnea, high serum urea nitrogen and total bilirubin concentrations, epistaxis, persistent hypotension, and oliguria. The cat recovered with supportive care but developed extensive necrosis of the skin on the dorsum by 9 days after the initial trauma.

INTRODUCTION: Morbidity of tissue extravasations is far of being properly considered in our hospitals. The increased survival rate in very low prematures and severe oncological patients has also produced an increase in the incidence of this complication, that in the most of the cases are not agressively treated in order to minimize the extravasation consequences. We have reviewed our experience in the treatment of these lessions using either injection and saline flushing of the subcutaneous (Gault tissue protocol, 1993) or coverage with artificial dermis in cases with irreversible necrosis.

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is an inflammatory disease causing nodules, abscesses, sinus tracts, and scars in fold areas. It significantly impacts patients' quality of life. Surgical treatments are becoming popular in dermatology, with deroofing being a common procedure. However, recurrence rates can be high due to not removing fibrotic areas and scar tissue entirely. Recent efforts have focused on removing these tissues to achieve lower recurrence rates. This case report describes a male patient with HS who underwent a newly defined ultrasonography-guided modified deroofing surgery for HS.
