A premature newborn born to an adolescent girl with acute Ebola virus disease and malaria survives in a resource-limited setting in an Ebola treatment unit in DR Congo: "A case report".

KEY CLINICAL MESSAGE: In the acute phase of Ebola virus disease (EVD) premature neonatal survival is extremely rare. High mortality is related to prematurity, neonatal complications of Ebola, and precarious conditions of neonatal care in underresourced ETUs. This is a case of preterm neonatal survival in the setting of acute maternal EVD infection. ABSTRACT: This case describes rare preterm newborn survival in the setting of an Ebola treatment unit in Eastern DRC. The neonate was born vaginally to an acutely ill 17-year-old mother who was vaccinated against Ebola virus after being identified

Awe and premature efaculation: a case study.

The analysis of a man suffering from premature ejaculation is described. As is typical of a large group of men who ejaculate prematurely, he was passive and masochistic in his marriage and obsessive-compulsive in his character. Analysis of his affect of awe led first to a deeper understnding of his self-representations and object relationships, and later, with the discovery of the specific unconscious fantasies associated with the feeling of awe, to the alleviation of his symptom of premature ejaculation.

Clinical and sociodemographic features in offspring aged 0-3 years of mothers with schizophrenia spectrum disorders. A descriptive cross-sectional study.

OBJECTIVE: Offspring of parents with schizophrenia spectrum disorders (SSD) have an increased risk of neurodevelopmental disturbances. However, the ability to provide very early interventions to support these children and their families requires profound knowledge regarding characteristic features of both the parents and their offspring. Information on this subject is currently sparse. The aim of the present study is to investigate clinical and sociodemographic variables in offspring in the age range of 0-3 years of mothers diagnosed with SSD. METHODS: The study is descriptive with a cross-se

Prolonged Infant Crying: Caregiving Quality and Child Physical Abuse Risk.

Research suggests that prolonged infant crying may increase risk for child physical abuse (CPA). However, few studies have examined behavioral responses to infant crying among parents at risk for CPA. The present study sought to fill this gap by using a simulated infant to examine how mothers and fathers with varying degrees of CPA risk respond to prolonged infant crying. Specifically, a sample of 184 general population caregivers (107 mothers and 77 fathers) participated in a task that involved attempting to soothe a simulated infant that cried continuously for 30 min. The simulated infant se

Starting, spacing and stopping in the reproductive histories of outer Hebridean families.

Maternal ages at the first maternity (starting), at the last maternity (stopping) and the lengths of intervals between maternities (spacing) have been studied in the Outer Hebridean islands of Harris and Barra for births between the years of 1855 and 1990, a period during which a considerable 'fertility transition' occurred. There was a tendency in each island for increases with time in the ages at starting among less-fecund women (although after 1936 starting ages declined), and highly significant heterogeneity of covariance: adjusted means dependent on the total numbers of maternities experi
