A case is presented of dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans of the gluteal region with metastasis to the lung appearing 7 years after wide excision of the primary lesion. The world literature is reviewed. The clinical and pathologic features of dermatofibrosarcoma are reviewed and treatment is discussed, with the aim of emphasizing the need for long-term follow-up examination of lymph nodes and for metastases following wide excision of these lesions.

As shown in earlier studies, the lodgement of circulating tumour cells in the lungs is reduced by thrombocytopenia in both normal and traumatized rats. Other experiments have shown that thrombocytopenia and antiserotonin treatment with ketanserin, which has a selective effect on 5-HT2 receptors, decrease the hepatic lodgement of intraportally injected tumour cells. The present studies show that treatment with ketanserin also reduces the lodgement of i.v.-injected tumour cells in the lungs in both normal and traumatized rats.

Low-grade fibromyxoid sarcoma (LGFMS) is a malignancy with propensity for late relapse that principally affects deep soft tissues of the extremities and trunk. Its occurrence in the lower female genital tract is rare, and thus it may not be always considered in the differential diagnosis. We describe the salient features of 7 vulvovaginal LGFMS identified in the authors' consultation files. Clinical information was obtained from referring pathologists. Archival slides were reviewed, and immunohistochemistry and fluorescence in situ hybridization were performed in cases with available material.

OBJECTIVE: To describe use of the scrotum as a pedicle flap to cover defects created by tumor excision in the perineum or caudal and medial aspect of the thigh.
STUDY DESIGN: Clinical study.

METHODS: After tumor excision and prescrotal castration, an incision was made around the base of the scrotum, leaving a pedicle on the side opposite the skin defect. We report 2 patients with paraspinous sarcoma treated with omental transposition tunneled through a defect in the lumbar fascia that resurfaced in the soft tissues of the lower back. Traditional reconstruction with skin flaps was unsatisfactory because of prior irradiation to the area. In 1 patient the omentum obliterated a cavity connecting the dura to the skin to prevent cerebrospinal fluid leak.
