An 18-year-old male patient presented to our regional referral hospital postcollapse at home. This was about 48 hours following a 2 m fall from a mountain bike. An 18-year-old man presented to the emergency department with an acutely swollen right upper limb having spent the previous day canoeing. Venography confirmed right subclavian venous thrombosis at middle one-third of right clavicle with no evidence of cervical rib or other structural abnormalities. This case reports an idiopathic gastric rupture in a 3-year-old girl who had an episode of nausea and vomiting after a large meal. Abdominal ultrasound and CT scan revealed free air and fluid in the abdominal cavity, leading to the diagnosis of gastro-intestinal perforation. During emergency surgery, gastric rupture was detected on the anterior wall of the gastric body near the greater curvature and treated by performing a sleeve gastrectomy. As a result of a traumatic delivery a newborn male child developed thoracic and intra-abdominal problems. Haemoperitoneum and chylous ascites were diagnosed; from a scrotal enlargement secondary to bilateral patent processus vaginalis and a chylothorax became apparent during investigation of the scrotal swellings. We discuss the presentation, diagnosis and management of the case and review the literature.
