We present the case of a 76-year-old man with a right-sided Bochdalek hernia, admitted acutely with dyspnoea, abdominal distension and constipation. A chest radiograph and computed tomogram of the abdomen revealed marked elevation of the right hemidiaphragm caused by herniation of the colon. At laparotomy, strangulation of a portion of transverse colon was identified at the site of the foramen of Bochdalek. One-hundred and ninety-two incarcerated women who were participating in a trauma and abuse psychoeducation program were evaluated for childhood abuse, maltreatment and current dissociative symptoms. The link between childhood abuse and adult criminal behavior has been well studied but the mental health status of adult female inmates and the possible implications for their treatment and behavior is the next step. An 89-year-old female presented with typical symptoms of acute diverticulitis. Abdominal CT revealed an abdominal wall hernia with signs of acute incarceration in the lateral part of the transverse abdominis muscle and rupture of the transversalis fascia. The findings were confirmed intraoperatively. The present case underlines the diagnostic importance of abdominal CT, especially in patients with acute abdomen, allowing for selection of appropriate therapy options.

We report a rare case of retroperitoneal liposarcoma developing within an incarcerated inguinal hernia. A 53-year-old man presented to our hospital with left inguinal mass. Preoperative computed tomography revealed an intraabdominal huge mass, and a clinical diagnosis of liposarcoma. PURPOSE: To study the clinical significance of incarcerated materials at sclerotomy sites during vitrectomy.
METHODS: Fifty samples prolapsed from the entries to standard three-port pars plana vitrectomies were collected along the scleral surface. Samples from rhegmatogenous retinal detachments (RD) (n = 28), traumatic RD (n = 4), miscellaneous vitreous hemorrhages (n = 12), and intraocular foreign bodies (n = 6) were stained with hematoxylineosin and examined under light microscopy after being fixed in paraffin sections or smeared on slides.

In this study, sexual risk behavior of 104 incarcerated female drug users is examined. Findings demonstrate that incarcerated women who use drugs are at high risk for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection because of their behavior prior to arrest. Incarcerated obturator hernia is an uncommon entity that on occasion may produce specific radiographic findings and clinical signs (Howship-Romberg sign) that permit diagnosis prior to celiotomy.
